I want to be able to create a custom dimension style that is available for every new drawing I create. So far every time I start a new drawing I have to re create the same style. Is there a way I can make it permanently available?

Hi @Jkane2022 , Welcome to Autodesk Community Forums

As I can see you want to import/export Dimension style to save time

Yes you can do by Express tools tab, under Dimension pull down you can see "Import style" and "Export style"

or by using DIMIM or DIMEX command to import/export dimension style respectively.

Refer to this forum thread for reference

See with this solution, I have to import the file every time I start a new
drawing. What I'd like to be able to do is once I open up a new draft, just
go to dimension style and select it, because it is already loaded.

Hi @Jkane2022

I understand you need to have a default Dimension style whenever you create a new drawing:

1. Create your custom dimension style and set it as current then close the dimension style manager dialog box

2. Save the current drawing as a template (.dwt) with a new name to it.

3. Now, you can create a new drawing in which you have saved your custom dimension styles, and when you check the dimension style manager you can see the dimension style you have created would be already set as default.

Hi,

format tab? What does this relate to the topic (dimstyle)?

BTW: AutoCAD ribbon never had a Format tab (or is it a special of MAC version, where the UI is named wrongly as ribbon too?)

But Autocad have a MENU "Format" since decades..

What is turned off by default, also in 2025

MENUBAR<enter>1<enter>

Search in www for a picture where you can see that "Format",

Upload your current screenshot and the found www picture.

This way we can see the real problem and how to fix it

With all due respect, I have been using CAD for the past 10 years and there
has indeed been a Format tab on the ribbon. I found it for myself after
reaching out, I am not exactly sure what I pressed to show it, but it
appeared. Your tone is very rude and after spending what I have spent to
have this program, I expect customer service to be a hell of a lot better
than this! The dim style was another feature under the Format tab. I would
like to be transferred to another agent.
Hi Sebastien, apology accepted. Communication is imperative , so please be
mindful of what language you chose. I have attached screenshots so you can
see the Format tab. This was NOT there when I opened up the new 2026
version. I had to go to the drop downs and click on multiple tabs and it
just popped up, I am not sure which one made it open up. But this tab is
super important to my daily tasks, so I must understand where to locate it.
Thanks in advance.

Nothing attached..

(Mistake, or are you writing by eMail? That doesn't work, you have to come to the Forum direct: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/dimension-style/m-p/13851957#M355867

This is the only Format I know:

this is a Menu.
