We have remedied the known bottlenecks. We installed a new server with dedicated switch for only designers. We have exhausted our efforts with Dell, using Precision 7550. Have updated Bios settings, dedicated priorities for 3D programs, dedicated Nvidia graphics for those.

Regarding CAD workflow, we manage our model sizes, heavily use xrefs, and avoid using vendor provided .stp files. Navisworks is used as much as possible for model coordination. We bring in manageable sized Unified .rcs scan data. We have employed a lot clever ways to not bog the machines down.

About to just buy a BOXX and test drive it for the company. I suggest they go with towers vs laptops. easier to upgrade and perform better due to cooling abilities.

Title says it all.

My company has historically worked with Dell to spec out workstations. We have recently seen our computers, both towers and laptops suffer from heavy Advance Steel, Plant 3D, Revit, and point cloud usage. Approaching 2022, what's the latest and greatest hardware specs? CPU, RAM, Graphics

We've been presented the BIMBox as a solution but have not spoken to any companies using them as work horses.

Thanks for your help.

CASEY O'CONNOR

CAD Administrator / Senior Mechanical Designer

ProgressiveDesign®

5309 Commonwealth Centre Parkway

Suite 300

Midlothian, Virginia 23112

Office: (804) 330-8055 ex) 1179

Cell: (304) 546 0566

BOXX Computers as an alternate to BIMBox: both systems are true workhorses and worth the investment if you are truly suffering due to hardware limitations and not networking/software setup/workflow issues or just hit the wall with those old AutoCAD-based programs.

Have you folks actually invested in time/effort/cost of having all aspects of your CAD workflows investigated in detail? Assuming the problem is just the PC can be an easy but ill-advised first option as a fix.
