XREF AND OBJECTS PREVIEW WHEN OPENING DRAWING THEN NO LONGER APPEAR IN DRAWING

I have a file that when it is opening the xref's (there are 2 of them) preview fine along with the objects in model space. When the drawing is done opening the xref's and entities in modelspace no longer appear, they are still attached and if I try erase all the it recognizes then but they do not highlight at all. I ran an audit it fixed one error but didn't bring back the entities or xref's. It is like they are there and still attached to the file but not visible? Any clues to why this is happening? All the layers are on and not frozen?!

Use RECOVER command to open the XREFs first (then QSAVE) then the top file(s) and see if that fixes the glitches in those files.

tried that also and it didn't work. If I draw new lines in the file in modelspace they will show up until I save and exit and when I re-open the file those lines will preview with everything else but once the file opens completely they to are gone too!
