AutoCAD 2025 is not running smoothly.

For some time now, my AutoCAD 2025 has been having issues with cursor smoothness, and it always happens when I, for example, close the computer (suspend) and then reopen it. In these cases, I try to close and reopen AutoCAD, but the problem persists. The only solution is to restart the computer, but clearly, that doesn’t seem normal. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling AutoCAD, and I’ve downloaded all the updates.

My computer has an RTX 4060 8GB graphics card and an Intel i9 13th Gen processor, so I don’t think it’s a performance issue. Additionally, after discussing this with colleagues, I noticed that they’re experiencing the same problem. Up until AutoCAD 2023, I never encountered these issues; I started noticing them with the 2024 version, but with 2025, the problem seems constant.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Do you have any solutions? Thanks.

Thank you for your reply, but I believe this is not the same issue because some of my colleagues have encountered the same problem despite using different processors (i7 or Ryzen). Moreover, this happens under a standard workload as I use AutoCAD for 2D drafting.

where do you store your files?
Are you remote, using VPN to access office hardware and files?

What has your IT offered for fixes and solutions? If nothing, or you did not ask, you should be persistent about they getting involved since "no one else" has the issue as you stated.

Have you installed the 2024.1.6 / 2025.1.1 Updates yet? ABOUT command in your AutoCAD will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards please.

If that did not help... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero): a restart of your AutoCAD 2024/25 is required for it to take effect.

If still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort, let us know if that solves it.

Not sure from your vid if this is the issue but in 2023 LT I occasionally notice that my cursor doesn't move smoothly...I don't use the grid but it feels like the cursor is doing the magnet thing to grid spacing...it seems to usually go away if I switch between grid and polar snap on the status bar (again, I am not actively using either)...if not I close AC and re open and then it goes away...

Thank you, but I don't think this is the problem because I have the grid disabled, and it only occurs when I put the PC into sleep mode and then resume working. If I restart, the problem does not reappear.

Thank you for your response. I work on files stored on my computer, so I don't think it's a network issue. I checked that AutoCAD is up to date and tried applying the various solutions you suggested, but the problem persists. The strangest thing is that if I turn on the computer and use AutoCAD, there are no malfunctions. However, when I close it and put the computer into sleep mode, the issue starts when I reopen it. For now, the only solution is to restart the computer.

If you have the option to hibernate when you close the lid of your laptop how’s about choosing that instead of sleep just to see if that makes a difference upon reopening the lid?

Also have you tried instead of shutting down the computer to resolve the cursor smoothness issue by just logging off of your current Windows profile and then signing back in?

That's a system level (video card choking?) issue you're not going to find a fix for inside the program. Closest I can find for tips from Autodesk is this (note https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCAD-crashes-after-the-computer-wakes-from-sleep-or-is-unlocked.html

Best of luck: it seems some i9 fixes you dismissed earlier point to video issues and/or motherboard replacements. You may have some tough decisions to make.
