Delay in Autocad

When I'm working in Autocad 2022, there is a delay when I try to execute any file-related command, such as "Saveas". It's very frustrating - this delay is around 12 or 13 seconds. What could be causing this, and what can I do to eliminate it?

Here is one item that reduces lag while working in the file. Although not directly related to a file operation if your cursor is near an MTEXT object during the file operation request it will add to the delay

TIP - LAGGY MTEXT PAN
If you notice a drag when you drag a mouse across an MTEX object it may be a by-product of having selection cycling turned on "slectioncycling = 2".

You can toggle this function on the fly via Ctrl+w.

Turning selection cycling off provides a smooth motion across the MTEXT object.

I have noticed better MTEXT behaves a bit more responsive with selection cycling turned off too.

How heavy is your file? Over 1 meg? Over 2 Meg? 1.5 meg is about the max where I keep my files. Anything over that I see delays.

Have you tried the AutoCAD reset command in the windows menu tree?

Is your file located on your local machine? is there an XREF? Has there ever been a link to a network drive?

These tend to leave behind ghost links that cause the machine to look for something. Pretty much have to transfer objects to a clean canvas to clear the issue.

Have you been in and out of the block editor repeatedly during the slow drafting session?

How does it behave on a fresh machine reboot? Try turning "Fast Startup" off. This will ensure the startup is from a clean point vs from a previously saved session.

Is your network connection through a VOIP phone jack? Move the cable to the wall and see if that helps.

Are you working from home but have an open VPN connection to your workplace network?

Is your machine running MacAfee real-time scanner or any other real-time scanner?

As you can see there are many variables.

You can load windows performance monitor and track memory and disk stats as you troubleshoot the issue.

The files are on my local PC and they are fairly small. No XREFs

Yes, I have a VPN connection open to my workplace.

I haven't been using the block editor.

Selection cycling is on at the moment. I disabled it but it didn't make a huge f=difference.
