Hi Craig, following up here in... you guessed it - 2024! Did your install become more stable after the remote fix by AutoDesk?

We will be upgrading to Autocad (W/ Mechanical) 2024 here soon and I am wondering if VIEWBASE is still unstable. Seems like it has always been "just around the corner".

Hello there.

I am getting seriously tired now.

Since upgreading to 2022, I constantly have issues with VIEWBASE creation.

Ok to be fair..., all the issues starts after changes in the model are made. Auto Update is off, mainly using Update all Views, As U assume, mostly doesnt work.

I am trying all recommended methods.

- Turning ON/OFF all layers

- updating views

- layer ON/OFF one by one and then updating

- hardware acceleration OFF (what is then the purpose the have one???)

- I set Autocad to its default !!!

- scaling by 1.0001

- even just moving view, the try to create detail just freezes autocad

I never had to experience this.

NOTHING!

What is the worst now, not even copying model to new drawing helps.

Still the same error.

Yes, I am using dwg blocks (probably not created in autocad, but that was never the issue)

What would you recommend?

I was amazed, when I first discovered VIEWBASE function and got very confident with it. Started to fully use it immediately.

Viewports are not my thing. I need cuts. Never really got in to the sections...

I am in the middle of a project, other are on the way.

Any ideas?

Will older version of Autocad help?

I am self employed/freelancer, i dont have whall office at my back, or IT department. Trying tho read and write in english still causes "lost in translation"

Thanks in advance!

No, I definitely did not lose the track or orientation in the virtual space.

The model is made, to make detailed technical drawing, using viewbase as a main "tool"

Once trying to do this, of course in the layout tab, nothing is created!

As mention in the post above, not even copying the the model in to a new "clean" drawing (call the uploaded file OLD)

During the time I managed to get the needed result by copying the model to another used file that was working and I updated the VIEWBASE views/ details there.

Point is, updating views made by VIEWBASE command is mostly not working(since I switched to 2022).

Needed result as attached.

Anyway THANK YOU for your interest.

I would say, these blocks are not the issue. It performs still the same with or without them. Deleting them, using PURGE, RECOVERY, AUDIT...

I think there is some bug, I am just trying to find some way, how to go around them.

Or at least if there would be some list, what is better not to use, how many solids is it able to handle, ...

Never mind...for now I am fine. But I am pretty sure it is gonna appear soon.

Hope I will be able to "fix" it

Upon further examination of your dwg vs your pdf...

Your Vykres A2 template dimensions does not correspond to your 3d model. Meaning that either you are using the wrong 3d model OR the wrong template for that 3d model. Your viewbase on Vykres template seems to be for a smaller buffer unit.

For example, 3d countertop lenght in modelspace is 3274mm. Now looking on your template, no such dimensions exists, in fact not 1 single dimension actually corresponds... Your 3d model does corresponds to your PDF, but your 3d doesnt correspond to template viewbase dimension. So of course viewbase isnt working...

Admitedlly i didn't even know the Viewbase command existed so i learned something new looking into your post.

That command seems pretty powerful, but like your post describes it can cause a lot of problems if things go wrong.

Personally, i would be using the Solprof & Section commands to generate flat 2d views of your 3d model. All dimension should be done in modelspace rather than paperspace. It's a more low tech approach, but way safer.

Hello Dany,

quite happy teach you something new.

I discovered the viewbase accidentally, searching for some another things. It was acctualy the reason why I decided to stick with Autocad for another year.
I really like it! The way how it works and what is the end "product" !
I am not really familiar with SOLPRF but some time ago I was using the Section command or viewports.
It was always a loooooong way just to set it up and at the end it didn not look like I needed.
How ever, the viewbase works, let say OK once the model is finished and no changes will be made.

(as if this ever happened 🙂

Yeah, its definetily the evolution of autocad 3d aligning itself with Solidworks and other 3d applications in that regards. If it works for you keep going and become the master of that command. Especially as a Freelance, you need to be at the top of efficicecy to be sucessful.

I've been doing 3d once in a while for like 20 years+ on autocad 3D although its not my core business. I am more a 2d detailler for fabrication. Here is a screenshot of a project of a small project; I draft everything in 2d, detail in 2d modelspace, THEN make a 3d isometric view. Rather than make a 3d and then try to detail in 2d. The approach is completely different although were a looking for the same result... Best regards !
