I've never had this issue before and i've used AutoCAD for many years. Annoyingly it's probably one variable that has switched on or off, but can I find it can I heck. I've looked through he forum but not found the specific issue I have.

I've started using Acad 2022 recently, upgraded from AcadLT 2020.

I'm working on a set of elevations (drawn in Model Space), I've set line widths for different elements by colour (nothing unusual there). I'm using a plot .ctb file i've used before (without issue). Line widths set by colour. I've a titleblock and 4 viewports in Paper Space, 1 VP for each block of elevations. The problem is the line widths shown in Paper Space (I have Display Plot Styles ticked in the Page Setup Manager) and also that print from Paper Space come out far to thick and don't reflect the pen widths set up. They do print correctly directly from Model Space only and I don't know why.

Any thoughts please...

Kind regards

Gary

I've hopefully attached 2 PDF's, 1 from Model Space that is correct and 1 showing the Paper Space issue with the 4 Viewports, Titleblock that I can't seem to change.

There are most likely multiple things to check. But first easy checks are:

Make sure your PSLTSCALE, MSLTSCALE, LTSCALE are all set to 1.

In Page Setup Manager make sure under "plot options" that you check the boxes for "plot object lineweights" and "plot with plotstyles". Also under plot scale I usually uncheck the box for "scale lineweights".

If those couple of things don't work, then please upload your drawing and CTB file so it can be tested out.

Sam,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I already do the "In Page Setup Manager make sure under "plot options" that you check the boxes for "plot object lineweights" and "plot with plotstyles". Also under plot scale I usually uncheck the box for "scale lineweights".

The various pltscales didn't make a difference.

I've uploaded the drawing and .ctb file (ctb is in the Zip file) so fingers crossed you find the offending tick box/variable or find it's a bug in the 2022 version.

Kind regards

Gary

Uncheck Plot Object Lineweights.

You are using color to control so it seems that is the trick.

I did that and my prints look like the good print you supplied.

Hope this helps.

JRR.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately switching off "plot object line weights" makes all the lines default to 0.25mm (which I had to do to get it to the client looking semi normal)

Having spent nearly £2000 on upgrading the software it would be nce to have it working as it should (Line weights plotting from 0.13mm to 0.40mm in the drawing) and as it has done in the past in previous versions.

Hi,

I checkt you files and i checked it on my side too, i can not see any unexpected things an no difference between

the programs.

The only questions i have are user related and perhaps you just expect the wrong things

or used the wrong setting without to know.

1. Why do your uploaded two PDF, created by different plot drivers?

Use the same one (AutoCAD PDF...pc3) and compare it again, is it better for you know?

2. Why do you compare a small A3 with a big A1?

It is not a problem, but in your PDF viewer it can look unexpected - if you not familiar with that.

Use the same papersize (full bleed A3) and compare it again, is it better for you know?

-

If you are not happy with the result, please share your PDF and Screenshots

where we can see what you talking about.

like to edit my post this way:

2. Why do you compare a small A3 with a big A1?

It is not a problem, but in your PDF viewer it can look unexpected - if you not familiar with that.

Use the same papersize (full bleed A3) and compare it again, is it better for you know?

(or just using the same scale, but you plotted the model much bigger than the layout, what looks like "thinner")

Your Layout PDF is correct! also the Model PDF,

Just different settings and result, but the lineweights are correct in both files.

I have a suggestion for the problem with the line weights not showing up in layout space. I was having trouble with my table borders, and wanting to have thicker borders around different sections within the table. I found out that since I use a customized .ctb (color table file) for plotting, that I need to change the layer of the each border to a color that my file prints thicker. Otherwise, the table prints as a block and all on the same layer/color and line weight.

I have found that AutoCAD can do just about anything you want it to, but sometimes it's a rat's maze to trouble shoot and figure out the settings to produce the desired output. Don't give up, and keep trying things!

I recommend not using either a STB or CTB to control lineweights as they can be set in the Layer Manager in the last 26 versions of AutoCAD and to have options for 4 different lineweights in your CTB would require 4 times as many Plot Styles which adds to the learning curve for anyone looking at one of your drawings.

Yes, that was the way we all had to do it 27 years ago but it's time to move past that. Advantages include making it easier to view lineweights correctly while you're working and being able to control lineweights with Layer States.

Thanks for your insight. Unfortunately, I am not in the position right now to change the way things are done. Currently, we don't even have drawing standards, so the common .ctb file helps keep the hardcopy prints looking uniform.
Hopefully one day, I can become the CAD manager and I will definitely keep your suggestion in mind.

Is this problem solved by any of you? I have the exact same problem in 2025 version. Never happened to me. Also copy pasted into another file where everything was ok and it kept happening! I think probably the issue is in the properties of the lines of the drawing, but I don't know tbh. I'm struggling here. Can anyone help plz?

We use a custom .ctb file to control line weights at my company. It's probably the outdated way to do it, but change is hard to come by around here. Therefore, my problem was solved by editing my .ctb file. Unfortunately, there are several different copies of the file floating around the office with the same name and it causes incorrect printouts for some. Here's a screenshot of my "Rev_Red.ctb" table that I can edit...

Best of luck!

I'm sending the file I'm using, but can't send you the ctb file. I don't use stb. What could be the problem with the ctb file?
