Hi,

I have been trying to join my airfoil geometry with this line that was oriented perpendicularly to the airfoil at a specific point. I have tried the JOIN command, FLATTEN Command, PEDIT>JOIN command, BPOLY Command and many more. Nothing seems to work out and I keep getting this message, "0 objects joined, 2 objects discarded from operation.". I am attaching my .dwg file here. I would really appreciate if someone could help me.

Hi,

Join command .. Joins the endpoints of linear and curved objects to create a single object , Combines a series of finite linear and open curved objects at their common endpoints to create a single 2D or 3D object. The type of object that results depends on the types of objects selected, the type of object selected first, and whether the objects are coplanar . For that in your case you have a closed shape and as you know construction lines, rays, and closed objects cannot be joined.

I...I do not understand. My airfoil was spline, so I exploded it into several different polylines. Then I was trying to join the line of my interest with one of those polylines. Unfortunately, that is not happening. Could you please help? I am attaching a picture, which shows the orientation I want to make as one single object, which the JOIN command is not allowing me to. What else should I do to make them as one single object?

Use the BREAK-command to open the airfoil-profil at the foot point of the line.

Use the PEDIT- command to reconnect the lines.

Regards

Jochen

www.black-cad.de

It may depend on what you want to do with the resulting single object. JOIN can only connect things open-end-to-open-end, not end-to-somewhere-in-the-middle. If you want to maintain your airfoil profile as an un-broken outline, and as its original Spline rather than converted to Polylines, can you do what you need with all of it if you put the profile [as whatever object type] together with the Line into a Block?

Thanks a lot. This visual input helped me a lot in achieving my goal of joining the lines. I have solved the problem now.
