AutoCAD 2020: The “delete” command fails to delete the selected objects,

AutoCAD 2020: The “delete” command fails to delete the selected objects,

I couldn’t figure out why the “delete” command fails to delete the selected objects.

What could be the issue here?

You are using plain vanilla AutoCAD and are dealing with AEC proxy elements.

Option 1Option 1.

Option 1:

Contact the original author and have him use ExportC3DDrawing command.

Option 2:

Freeze the V-NODE layer.

Option 3:

Use LAYDEL command.

Option 4:

Read about proxy elements >>HERE<<.

You can not delete proxy objects if the programmer didn't allowed that for this Proxy.

Open the file while Proxynotice is set to 1, so you can see which programs are missing (Civil3D from AutoDESK).

Proxy means that your program doesn't know that kind of object type (in this case c3d cogo points, if i am right).

You can install an object enabler, if available. Here, Civil3D - 2021 for example:

Without C3D or OE, workwaround for get rid of them, use WBLOCK, Option OBJECT selection.

doesn't work for proxys you can't erase.

Would you please explain what you mean with this sentence?

Because I read this statement as "It is not possible to get rid of these objects".

And you wrote this after you got three solutions (and i will add one more).

1. Open the file in Civil3D, you can erase the cogo Points like a normal line

2. Use AutoCAD while Civil3D ObjectEnabler is installed, you can erase the cogo Points like a normal line

3. Use AutoCAD and my workaround by WBlock object method

So i have to think I misunderstood your last answer 🤔

But your dream is also that you don't kill object structure inside the dwg-file. E.g. you have Civil 3D objects inside the dwg and these objects are built to be "very associative" with each other. If you would be allowed to delete part of the source data to build a surface, a profile-view, a corridor and someone else opens your file with AutoCAD and deletes just a few points this could kill your complete Civil 3D content. That's why such objects (without object enabler, which makes sure the internal object topology is not destroyed) could not easily deleted.

To speak more with your ArcGIS words ... think about a SHP and someone asks you "I simply want to delete the ID column, just by pressing delete" ... I'm quite sure you would describe him that ID column in the shape is (by default) used as connection to other database or builds up the relation between data and geometry.

Hope I was able to describe why "delete just by pressing delete" does not make sense in every situation and the system avoiding this "easy deleting" has it's reasons.

I don't know what your problem is, but it happend multiple time in the past.

It would be useful:

- Read all answers

- Test all answers

- Reply to all answers

- if you can not follow a hint, if you doesn' understood, ask and describe your problem

For example your last post "My dream is to have them deleted just by pressing delete"

You would be able to do it now, if you had followed the tips.

i like to explain my last post:

The ObjectEnabler -Solution is (for me) the right answer.

Cogo points are not native AutoCAD objects,

by installing OE AutoCAD knows what it is and how to act with.

As I wrote, I was able to delete them like a usual line.
