Hi,

I am removing all annotations and other unwanted elements (Construction lines, doors, etc.) from AutoCAD and saved it as a DXF to trace out for energy modeling on IESVE. However, even after deleting those elements, it is showing up on IESVE after I import the DXF into the application. It is causing to lag and slow down certain functions on IES. So, I need to make the dxf as simple as possible (Only internal partitions and outer box). Please find attached images.

Thanks,

Trimmed unwanted elements on Autocad and saved it as a DXFImported the saved DXF but the annotations are still visible

1) What is "IESVE"?
2) What did their support team offer up as a suggestion?
3) Is this the only DXF with that issue? Or a sudden new problem?
Or does it happen to all DXF files?
4) Did you remember to PURGE then QSAVE your source file before creating the DXF file?
5) What method did you use to create the DXF file? Object selection would be the better option but you never explain it.

6) Any reason you opted not to share the problem DXF file here for others to confirm your findings?

TIA

Reasons you are seeing other info is that you didn't save or you didn't select the objects for dxf. DXFout exports the entire file (model contents).

Try this: DXFOUT. Tools pulldown. Options... DXF Options tab. select box next to "Select Objects"

This will only export what you select.

Hi,

1. IESVE is an energy Modeling software

2. Haven't asked them yet. Since it only imports the DXF file which I have saved and nothing more. The annotations shouldn't be visible on IESVE once I delete them on AutoCAD right?

3. No this is not the only DXF. Every DWG which I clean up and save it as DXF, all the elements are visible after I import it on IESVE

4. Yes. I purged all the unwanted items, saved the file and then exported to DXF.

5. Trimmed all unwanted elements > select all objects shown above in the dwg image > save as > AutoCAD 2018 .dxf file > tools > options > select objects > save

6. It is a company propriety and I am not sure if I can share it here. Anyways, I will share the fill which I have saved.

I use AutoCAD MEP 2018 version.

>>>...I use AutoCAD MEP 2018 version....<<<
While you wait on your 3rd party software vendor support, does dumbing down your file to plain AutoCAD content then exporting to DXF fix (object section method) solve the issue

>>". The annotations shouldn't be visible on IESVE once I delete them on AutoCAD right?"

Right, but you doesn't delete them, it is still a part of your dwg

(you freezed, turn off and locked the layer, but that does't change the fact that the objects are inside this file)

You can go the way you can see above (object selection option)

or command WBLOCK Object selection method

OR, you really delete these objects, what wasn't the case until now.

Actually it worked! Thank you so much! I want to delete all those oval patterns that are inside the thick walls. How do you see the layer which is frozen and which is not? It was not designed by me by the way. I am an amateur in AutoCAD. I just import the files given by the BIM manager for the next phase.

Yes, I tried that. Didn't work either. I guess the problem was with freezing which I still don't know what that is. However, the file which @Anonymous sent back is all cleaned up after I exported it to DXF and imported it to IESVE.

You are a genius. This file is indeed simplified. No lags on IESVE. Could you please tell me what you did there to clean up the dwg? I have 4 more floors for which I have to do the same. Thanks! And yes, it was exported from Revit I guess. They only generate 2D dwgs for energy modeling/documentation purposes.

To keep it simple.

Freeze layers:

A-PATT

ARCH. 10-8-2021 4TH

Then DXFOUT

Make sure you select the TOOLS pulldown, choose OPTIONS and use SELECT OBJECTS (like in the screeen capture I sent).

Once you give the filename to be created you will be promted to select objects.

After freezing the 2 layers above you should have only see what you need to export.

That process will be easier then explaining how to delete the many various objects (that are not properly formatted).

Got it. I can see that the A.PATT layer is common for all the DWG but the second layer name keeps changing by the level. I was able to get the desired DXF. Thank you very much @Anonymous.
