topic Why can't I join these lines? in AutoCAD Forum

Some of my drawings seem to have an issue joining polylines, usually after trimming two ends. I know I can join them using FILLET or PEDIT, but why won't the JOIN command work? I copied and pasted various lines that should join from my drawing into a fresh drawing and sometimes they connect, and sometimes they do not. If I grab the shared snap point, BOTH lines move, indicated that they are exactly lined up. They are both on the same elevation, I select both lines and set elevation to 0. The fillet command doesn't return an error stating that the lines are on different planes, it works just fine. Despite this, they are suddenly able to join with the JOIN command after using the FLATTEN command, which seems to indicate an elevation issue. However, the only other way to get them to join with the JOIN command is to select one line endpoint, move it away and then back again to snap with the other line, which works just fine and indicates that it is a misalignment issue. What is happening here? I want to use the JOIN command, not these other workarounds, it is harming my workflow. Is there a TRIM or JOIN tolerance variable that I can mess with or something like that? (Using AutoCAD 2025 with Carlson Civil Suite)

Let me know if you get the same issue in the attached file. Thanks.

Update: According to support, looks like an issue when your drawing is located far from the origin (over 20 miles). Moving everything closer to the origin will help with all new lines created and joined, but not with any existing lines created far from the origin and then moved closer. The issue seems to only happen in the 2025 version.

Those are two separate examples, each a pairing of two polylines. They should be joining at the angle.

Edit: I uploaded a new file to avoid confusion. I just want to join the lines intersecting at the angle.

JOIN works on them for me [Acad2020 where I am now]. Are you getting any messages when it doesn't work for you?

0 objects joined, 2 objects discarded from the operation. I'm using AutoCAD 2025, perhaps the newer version has an issue, or there is a general setting in AutoCAD that needs changing. Thanks.

I also had trouble using the JOIN command in 2025.1.1.

No problems in 2024 using the same JOIN command.

However in 2025.1.1 I successfully used the PEDIT command, Multiple with 0 fuzz factor and the 2 PLINES successfully joined.
