Help with 3D drawing assignment

Hi I am currently figuring out the 3D aspects of ACAD, I am tasked with representing a hole in concrete with layers of gravel and dirt. I am hoping it’s easier to do this in 3D. What is the best way to represent the image in the attached file in CAD, is it using 3D or 2D?

2D... Your gonna need a Plan view and a Section AA across the center of your Plan view to detail your cross section layers. No point in doing that in 3D, although you could for educational purposes... But in an engineering office you won't see such a detail in 3d.

In addition, you could always provide an isometric view with your 2D orthographic drawing.
