Thank you i will play with this and see if it will work for what i am trying.... i have my doubts tho because i am trying to rotate a dimension line not the actual drawing.... if i tried to rotate my whole drawing it would mess up the orientation, I am just trying to copy a drawing my teacher gave to the class... and he literally want me to move the end point a little bit... but it keeps trying to do a linear type dimension i need the radius one.

Since you are looking for "R3.00", I assume you intend to have an actual Radial Dimension, not a linear one such as you have. A radial Dimension requires something with a radius to Dimension to. Draw an ARC using the Center option, and give Osnap-to-the-CENter of it all for that, and use two of the tooth tips for the start and end. Then Dimension the radius of that Arc, which will serve as the "extension line" for the Dimension. If you prefer the look, you can pull the Arc's ends off the teeth a little with LENGTHEN and a negative DElta value or the DYnamic option, or with BREAK [and probably a few other ways].

I ended up doing something similar... i drew the circle to desired radius and broke it so i only had it between two teeth... then i had to use a multileader and edit in my dimensions...

do you mind if i ask another question? when dimensioning radius/diameter, how do i make in internal line on a single dimension? ive seen vids and post on how to change all of them to internal but i want to be able to change a single dim even if there are 10 others without internal lines... does that make sense?

@tinknocker735 wrote:
I ended up doing something similar... i drew the circle to desired radius and broke it so i only had it between two teeth... then i had to use a multileader and edit in my dimensions...
.... when dimensioning radius/diameter, how do i make in internal line on a single dimension? ....

Don't use a Multileader and edit the dimension text in. Use a Radial Dimension (DIMRADIUS command, DIMRAD shortcut) -- this is what they're for.

I'm not sure what you mean by an "internal line" in a radial Dimension. If you mean this difference:

then if the text is inside the curve as here, it requires a separate DIMCENTER command. It happens along with the DIMRADIUS or DIMDIAMETER command only when the text is placed outside. If you have one like that but with no center mark, you can use DIMOVERRIDE to impose one:

Command: DIMOVERRIDE

Enter dimension variable name to override or [Clear overrides]: DIMCEN
Enter new value for dimension variable <1/8">: {accept current value or type something}

Enter dimension variable name to override: {Enter = no more variables to override}

Select objects: {pick it} 1 found

Select objects: {Enter to complete}

If you mean this difference:

you can force the line with the same DIMOVERRIDE approach, and the DIMTOFL variable [it stands for DIMension Text Outside, Force Line (inside) -- turn it ON]. Sadly, it won't give you both the center mark and that line as part of the same Dimension, but you can add the center mark with a separate DIMCENTER command.

If you mean something else, post a sketch.

This drawing has many detailling mistakes.

- There should be no radius' on this drawing. Only use Radius when is a circle is partial. Any full circle is Diameter

- You are missing a dimension to fully define tooth depth, how deep is it ?

- Your 1'' circles are not actually located on your sketch, can i drill these anywhere i want ?

- If all those circles are 1'', then you have to add the mention Typ, or Typical

- You should callout the qty. of teeth of have, yes you can figure that out by doing 360/20 degrees = 18. However,

 you will make the guys in the shop angry if they physically have to calculate something that you could have easily

 done for them.

A good start tho ! It needs a bit more info...

so i am sure this isn't the most accurate drawing but i have only been using AutoCAD for 2 months and all i have been tasked with so far is copying drawings my teacher gives us... i know its definitely a work in progress but hey... gotta start somewhere and their is no better experience than trial and error...

the second example you gave is what i mean... if i dim the circle it will point to it from the outside as in the red example... i want to add that internal or inside line also but only for one dimension.... is that what the DIMCENTER command does? hang in there with me im still very new to this and there is a lot to take in... i have only been told how to change it across all dimensions and well that isn't what i am after...

i appreciate the help big time

Command: DIMOVERRIDE

Enter dimension variable name to override or [Clear overrides]: DIMTOFL
Enter new value for dimension variable <Off>: ON

The DIMCENTER command will put the center mark + in if you want that [which the Dimension itself can't contain in combination with the line] -- select the Arc [or Circle] you want to add a center mark to, not the Dimension.

You can do yourself a favor by getting into Help and looking through the commands and System Variables that begin with DIM. [There are way too many System Variables, but take a spin; there's not as much excess in commands.]
