Why does the top left menu button shut down autodad?

Can the people who thought it was a good idea for autocad to close while clicking the main menu button, please explain?

There is already a beautiful very standard "X" in the top right of the program, with this well known function. So, even the option to close at the bottom of the application menu is not necessary.

So, why when I accidently click what is clearly a "menu" button more than once, without clicking anything that remotely says "exit" or "close" anything, does this kill the program?

It's been this way over many versions, so I assume there may be a reason for it? Or can you finally get rid of it?

Is there a way to disable this, or no?

I know my autocad crashes enough, that I really don't need it to close on me anymore than it already does.

That's the standard for well programmed Windows Programs!

Not special for AutoCAD 😉

This must be the only so called "well programmed" application in the world then.

Menu buttons are not "EXIT" buttons. And a button that does something that it is not labeled to do is clearly the opposite of "well programmed."

A well programmed application is when, you click a menu button, the dropdown opens, you click it again, the dropdown closes,...without closing the entire program.

It's not crashing. It's a regular shutdown just like hitting the "X" in the top right. If you've zoomed or made any changes to a drawing you can catch it by hitting the cancel button.

But, if your program has finally just opened when you do this, it closes with out the cancel button.

But, it is definitely not a crash. Just the way it is programmed to function.

Windows and Office standard programs, Adobe and more.. just some samples for you to show it isn't a special AutoDESK feature.

It isn't the Button, but the upper left corner of program windows.

Open a program, double-click the upper left corner.

I don't understand what could possibly be confusing. Just click the big red "A" in the top left of the program to open the application menu, then click it again to close it.

I agree with @cadffm, double clicking the upper left corner is a Windows feature to close certain programs.

Unfortunately, there is no control to switch off this behavior.

Consider your suggestion to Autodesk Support >>HERE<<.

Really? Half reading? Maybe the other commenters can claim this, but you seem to have failed to understand what was clearly written as if you didn't read much yourself. So, read it fully before you think you should tell someone else the same please.

And exactly this is how it works in AutoCAD too (and other programs with e menu there),

but if you run a double-click (instead of two clicks), you starting the MICROSOFT WINDOWS function to close the application.

Note: I also thinking: Adesk should have left the space
then it would only happen to the users which
1. Failing to hit the button
and
2. Double-click instead of clicking

You should rather take my response as, if you start an answer by questioning a clear question as if you don't understand it, either YOU didn't read the full question, OR you're just trying to smart off.

A good reason for ignoring anything you wrote after that sentence, and moving on to somebody who matters.😉

I couldn't replicate the "issue" from the description. It sounds like you were talking about two separate clicks, not a double click.

This is not an AutCAD function as you have learned.

Plus, complaining doesn't belong in this forum, a user help forum. Product feedback is elsewhere.
