    <description>&lt;P&gt;I remember a time when one Xref attached a drawings, which may have had within it a nested Xref (in which the xref-dependent layers had be overridden by the host drawing settings) and when that host/intermediate drawing was then Xreffed into a plotting sheet or subsequent host, that the nested XREF would retain the settings of the host file that it was attached into.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This seems to be horribly broken now. What's up with that? I thought that, perhaps, the new VISRETAINMODE settings might fix it, but it seems to be a pretty worthless sysvar....disappointed!&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>Are you actually needing to use XREFOVERRIDE variable instead? Introduced a few versions ago now, and seems to be what you are asking for if I understood your query correctly.</description>
