From the help file, in small letters: "The classic workspace no longer ships with AutoCAD." I don't think there is any company that is more disconnected with their customer base. I have been using AutoCAD in the building design industry for 25+ years at MULTIPLE large engineering firms. Every year they take our tools away and give us new tools that we will never use. I have not used ANY new features of AutoCAD since 2012. Now they are just taking away the classic ribbon altogether. WTF!!!! I am a CAD manager, and I am having to go around to every seat at my company and spend 25 mins getting back the old toolbars, and shutting off ALL of the new features. And the interface STILL requires each user to watch videos and learn how to use it. I would even go so far as to say that they are having a devestating effect on the construction industry, and probably even the economy. WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO RE-LEARN or RE-CREATE. There are now so many features in AutoCAD that it is almost un-usable. We are all usin g the command line and asking each other "what happened to......" What a complete shame!!

While I still think r14 when they dropped DOS as an option but added lwpolylines was the biggest upgrade since I started with r12.

I've enjoyed all the functionality that's been added with each version especially the ribbon introduced with the 2007 version though I wasn't able to let go of the old menus until 2011 when Civil 3D was fully implemented with the ribbon. Switching custom macro BMP image sizes then having to recreate them 2 versions later using PNG files with transparent backgrounds took a few days but was worth it.

I'd rather quit than go back to having to use AutoCAD 2012.

You definitely aren't doing any of your young designers any favors. There are several features introduced which greatly improve efficiency for us.

With that said I get it, its a pain in the ass when the tools you are used to are changed and moved around. I hated the ribbon when I first started using it in other applications, but they are built to help people work faster and more intuitively. Its not for everyone, but I know our users who have adopted it have had a better go of things. I will say it was interesting to me that bluebeam Revu moved back to a tool bar type interface after having a semi ribbon type interface.

When it comes to spending 25 mins there are better way of doing it.

I should clarify that I'm a BIM manager, CAD is a part of my work leftover from the last century. I used AutoCAD solely for 15 years and every time I started to feel efficient and pick up speed, Autodesk changed the UI. When Revit came out in 2006, I jumped on board and stopped focusing on AutoCAD efficiency. IMO Revit is much more appropriate for the Building Industry, and some of it's information management features make AutoCAD use seem silly. Yet, we still have straggler's that insist on using AutoCAD - so now I've been reluctantly using it for 30 yrs. Maybe that's why it annoys me more than others. I've had to re-configure my own toolbars and learn a new UI at least 30 times! The stragglers here insist on AutoCAD because they want SIMPLE --meaning Lines, Polylines, Text, Leaders, Hatching and a couple of symbols. AutoCAD's UI has become a nuisance to them, and to me. Everyone just uses the command line - and then that becomes the reason they won't switch to Revit.

BTW Thanks @pendean for the quick configuration recipe.

Ah, that make more sense. Its a world of difference between Revit and AutoCAD. What we do is let people know they are free to use the tools (assuming the tools they are using don't impact the product quality), but if its outside of what our adopted workflow is, we don't support them. Ive seen some of our senior designer doing things really well and they are quick, but i can see a time in the future where their proficiency will be out paced by innovation.
