using boundary command

hello chaps.

am i correct in what i think the boundary command is used for?

If i have a drawing which i want to superimpose on a genera; layout of an assembly ( not showing all the detail only the outline ) for the purpose of just to see if it will fit then i use the boundary command on a layer which i can then move around as I please? Is this right or is there a better way

many thanks

fred

@fredJME3H wrote

<<.... i want to superimpose on a genera; layout of an assembly....>>

Depending how your assembly is drawn you can use the BOUNDARY command to create an outline.

First, isolate your assembly. For example, freeze all non-assemply layers. Or select assembly objects=>right click=>select similar=>right click again=>Isolate objects=>Isolate selected objects. <<To exit Isolate Selected Objects mode: Right click in modelspace=>Isolate Objects=>End Isolation>>

Next, draw a rectangle (or any geometric shaped closed polyline) which surrounds your assembly.

KEY:

Cyan shapes = Areas of your assembly. It's OK if the areas overlap.

Yellow rectangle = You draw rectangle. Make sure it surrounds the assembly.

Start the boundary command.

Image-1

The assembly footprint is considered an ISLAND. In this specific example, the boundary command will create two boundaries, (1) an outer boundary on the yellow rectangle and (2) an inner boundary for the island. Keep the red polyline footprint and delete the outer boundary.

Image-2
