Hardware acceleration

Hi
I have been using AutoCAD 2022 for the past year without any issues with hardware acceleration. It was activated and working allowing me to view point clouds. My desktop is powered by a threadripper 3990x and 2 nvidia RTX A6000. This weekend AutoCAD stated there was an update so I updated AutoCAD. After that when I loaded in the point cloud file it said hardware acceleration is not available. I was not able to enable it in the graphics setting in AutoCAD. I tried completely uninstalling AutoCAD as per the AutoCAD knowledge form and still AutoCAD shows as there being no graphics card connected to the machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Update your video card driver help much?
Did you try removing the update to see if the problem is resolved yet? Do so now.

Post screenshots of your ABOUT and GRAPHICSCONFIG command pop-ups too please.

Hi Pendean,

thank you for your response. I tried removing the update and there was no fix. A driver update also did not resolve the matter. I have even tried installing Autocad 2023 and the same issue is happening. Attached please find the screenshots

Thanks for the screenshots: "software mode" in the GRAPHICSCONFIG pop-up would mean your video card driver is not capable of running AutoCAD 2023.

Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD/LT2023: reverting to DirectX11 may help and let you reset Graphicconfig command back to maximum performance.

Hi Pendean,

Is there any reason that autodesk would list the cards as being supported but then the software doesn't support them? Where would I set the GFXDX12 variable to 0? I appreciate all of your help!

So I tried that and still no luck. I was looking at this guide from auto desk

It seems that AutoCAD 2023 does not install a hardware database file like the guide says

Check that the hardware database file is present, located here:
- C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Rxx.x\PTXML\CertificationDB.xml

It also does not have in the registry a firstrun entry as listed in the guide:

In the Registry Editor, browse to and select the following registry location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\Rxx.x\ACAD-xxxx:40x\3DGS Configuration

Is this something that other people have noticed?

Not seeing any issues on any of our desktops and laptops we are testing now in the office with the 2023s, but we don't use your video card either

Did you reach out to Autodesk Support through your accounts page yet? That's your next step.

Hi Pendean,

Were you able to see if your AutoCAD installed files in that location and had the correct registry entries? Unfortunately it seems for students we don't have access to support.

@pisanom that's unfortunate.

OOTB AutoCAD2023 installations for all of us, no one needed to jack with anything in the Windows Registry.

Just to make sure it wasn’t my graphics cards I tried with a Quadro RTX 8000 and a GeForce 2080ti and had no luck. Though on my laptop which has a quadro rtx 3000 mobile processor it works completely fine.

Did you try clicking the Restore Defaults button in 3DCONFIG? Curious if that fixes the issue.
