GPU recommendation (only for 2D work)

Hello,

I'm thinking about upgrading the GPU to replace an old GTX Titan X (Maxwell) as the performance in aCad is not crispy and smooth sometimes.

On another PC I'm using a 1080Ti and the performance is awesome, never any hiccups and always a very smooth experience.

I don't work in 3D or even rendering, only 2D but sometimes with big drawing with big orthophoto backgrounds.

I would like to hear from people using one of those Quadro cards perhaps, as this PC is exclusively for work.

I was thinking maybe about a P2000?

Is it worth getting and which cards / price range is guaranteed to always give great performance and workflow?

I have a Radeon WX 5100 in my work computer and a Quadro P2200 in my home computer. The P2200 is probably overkill for what I need, but it was the best fit for me of the cards the vendor had.

I do mostly 2D work and push the WX 5100 to about 90% usage under the worst of our loading conditions (print previewing and panning elevations rendered with overlapping hatches and wipeouts). All other times it gets minimal usage. I haven't done a lot of testing on the P2200, but it has better specs than the WX 5100 and I've never had any issues with it.

The thing about AutoCAD is that, in my experience, it doesn't matter whether you have a certified card or not. Certified cards can still have driver issues (even when using the "certified" driver). Where the certified card matters is if you want to get tech support from Autodesk. If you don't have a certified card, Autodesk support stops your ticket and says that's the reason the program's not working. If you have a certified card, they'll spend a few days working with you before giving up and not resolving the issue.

AutoCAD isn't currently geared to make great use of the graphics card, so I wouldn't dump too much money into one. That said, Autodesk has been claiming for the past several years to try to improve upon that. I haven't really noticed a difference yet, but it is something being worked on so you might be able to get more value out of a higher-performing card in a future update.

Edit: Open Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and you can see the GPU usage on the Processes (1st) tab. Leave that open while working in AutoCAD to see if your current card is hitting near 100% usage or not.
