Georeferencing Problem

Hi there,

I am trying to mark the location with geolocation feature in AutoCAD. When I am using mark position, it marked somewhere else. For Example, using WGS84 system, the coordinates are Latitude= 49,005510, Longitude= 12,126040 in decimal degrees while marking position in AutoCAD it gives the values; 728606.71 Easting , 5432778.60 Northing. However, it is supposed to show in 33U, 289826.71 Easting and 5432048.38 Northing.
My unit values are in meters.

I need your assistance where I am supposed to change the UTM Zone in AUtoCAD? or What went wrong while marking the position in AutoCAD?

I would appreciate your assistance.

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
Do you have Vanilla AutoCAD or Civil 3D? Vanilla AutoCAD can't do much with Geo-Location.

Thanks for the info. I exactly don’t know which version I am using, however, I am using Autodesk/AutoCAD 2022.

I want to mark drawing with Global coordinates so that I can import dxf/dwg file in Edificius to make 3D model/simulation.

Quick question: how one can mark the coordinates precisely in AutoCAD?

You have already determined your target coordinates in UTM and Lat/Long.

By getting your point location in two differenent formats (projected UTM and geographic degrees), you have completed 80% of your goal! You will use both UTM coords and Lat/Long to finish the job.

Trust me when I say this, you have performed well above the AVERAGE USER.

GOOD JOB!!!!!!!

You can finish the procedure. Do this:

Use the command named GEOGRAPHICLOCATION=>Choose MAP=>Enter
In Address section input Lat/Long coordinates 49.005510,12.126040=>Enter=>Click Drop Marker Here=>Next
Scroll down select UTM84-33N (EPSG32633)=>Drawing Unit=>Meters=>Click RESET THE UNITS....if asked
Next
Next go to command line and enter 289826.71,5432048.38=>Enter. (DO NOT CLICK IN MODELSPACE!!!)
Still on command line choose 90=>Enter (Or if default is 90 you can click Enter). Wait for Bing aerial map.
Next, draw a circle with 100-meter radius. Put the centerpoint at x=289826.71, y=5432048.38.
Zoom-in to the circle. Your point, correct?

Turn on Bing aerial for your basemap (if it's not already turned on). Zoom-out from you circle but not too far out. Take a screenshot of your circle with Bing imagery in the background. Smile then upload your screenshot to the forum.

I apprciated your expalantion and comment.

Certainly, you are right. However, just a bit problem when I tried to put values in command line and enter 289826.71,5432048.38. It give me the error (see the attached file).
Although, I have selected the UTM33-WGS84 while edit location as you described. However, it shows two UTM zone (UTM84-32 and UTM84-33) as I mentioned in the attachement.

I am bit confused what I am supposed to do?

I would appreciate your assistance.

Hello @waseemulhasan

It depends where your site is located. The 'point' you provided in post 1 of this thread is in zone 33. You must use zone 33. Do not use zone 32.

There are a total of 60 UTM zones on planet Earth, each zone is 6-degrees wide. Imagine the earth is an orange, you peel it and end up with exactly 60 wedges. Each wedge constitutes a UTM zone.

Image-1: the white lines running from pole-to-pole define the 60 UTM zones. The zones are labeled with white numbers. Although each zone represents a specific curved orange wedge, your UTM map, the map you draw in modelspace and eventually print to hardcopy, is flat. Starting from a curved surface and going to a flat map is known as a projection. This is why all UTM coordinate systems are referred to as Projected Coordinate Systems.

Image-2: Your site is in Austria and the country stradles the border of UTM zone 32 and UTM zone 33. Your specific point (the one you mentioned in your opeining post) is in zone 33. If, however, your site was near Switzerland or Liechtenstein you'd be farther west and that would be UTM zone 32.

Generally speaking, if you map needs to cover the entire country of Austria, then you'll probably need to use a coordinate system that's not UTM (maybe AT? or MGI?). The UTM84 coordinates for zone 33 do not apply to zone 32 and vice versa.

I highly appreciated your explanation and feedback. Absolutely, you are right, I could use either UTM84 coordinates for zone 33or zone 32. However, I would certainly use one at a time, it's not possible to use both of them. My location is at near Munich. Therefore, I believe, I could use either use UTM84 zone 32 or 33.
My actual concern is how to change the UTM zone in AUTOCAD. Even though I have changed it while editing the map location from geolocation feature still it's showing UTM32 coordinates if I am hovering the mouse in model space.

How am I suppose to solve this issue? I am Using UTM84-33N, it is supposed to show me the value like this.

Also, while I closed the file the marking points are messed up and converted intovery big lines as you can see the image above. could you please guide me how to get rid of this?

Another quick question: How one can verify its georeference location is completely right? why I am saying that, because if you randomly mark position with the help of Lat/long after georeferenced. It shows the wrong marked position. why?
As I read about here, it always shows wrong marked position until one can define the position from edit map feature.

Use command ABOUT to find out what version of AutoCAD you have. A screen shot of that please.
Your drawing is a dxf. Save it as a dwg and you'll have more functionality.
Those overly large points can be changed by command DDPTYPE.
