How to share cad files to clients without dynamic blocs intelligency ?

My manager ask me to find a way to "clean" fast and systematically our drawings before sharing them to clients like architects.

We uses a lot of dynamic blocs in our drawings to accelarate design time.

But those blocs can be a way to have a edge on our competitors.

So we want to find a way (as simple it can be) to not delete them, but remove all other visibility or any properties that are included in them.

I've thinked to explod every blocs in my drawing, but file size increase dramaticly.

Also thinked to share only the pdf file of my drawing. For me it seem to be the best way to eliminate all of our secrets, but my manager is not so happy with that methode.

Any ideas or comments can be helpfull, let's brainstorm on this please !

I haven't tried it, but maybe try exporting to an AutoCAD version prior to 2007 when dynamic blocks were implemented. Then save back to the current version if desired.

I've tried to saveback to older version my drawing that i want to share and eliminate dynamic blocs.

Unfortunatly, it seems to keep those dynamic blocs. I've tried every version available, even dxf format all version and dynamic blocks still available. Did i make it wrong ?

A collegue at work told me to try the "BURST" command.

I've give it a try and it work well, but the process took a looooooong time to burst everything.

File size increase dramatically, but i'm ok with that, it's the price to pay for removing blocks !

PDF files are common currency when it comes to handing over drawings to clients. If your client complains about ''not having the dwg files'', tell him to use the PDFIMOPRT comand to convert the PDF back to DWG. All your company secrets will be safe while maintaing ''Common and Logical Business Practices''.

Exploding or Bursting all of your blocks does not qualify as ''Common or Logical Business Practices'' in my personal opinion.

Save back to R2000 format?

AECTOACAD command back to R2000 format?

There are many posts about converting DynBlocks to "regular" blocks in these forums and on the web: try a search while you wait.

That's exactly what I think two, but the project manager here want to look better by sending CAD files rather then PDF.
May be at the end of all this searching process, they will change their mind !

The times I've worked for owner operators, DWGs were required to be turned over after the project. If they gave us PDF, or PDF imported DWGs that meant that was the last time we did business with that firm haha. Not all clients are the same though, but you gotta look at those terms of service.

These days, a .dwg created from an imported .pdf can replicate the .dwg that it was created from. That kind of decision might not be relevant to companies beyond the noob phase. YMMV, depending on location and current market trends.

I don't know if you did something wrong (because I don't know what you did 😉 ), but here works saveas R12 dxf.

But be careful, you also may loose (besides the visibility states) some other newer features.

After burst, try overkill comand+ -pu/r/*/N might help decrease file size
