Exported arg doesn't include scales list

I just realized the default scale list set in options isn't included with a profile export/import. I know they can be preset in dwg templates but people still manage to bastardize it. So I'd like them to be able to reset their list to a predefined list.

Am I missing something? I assumed any setting in options would be included with the export. Thanks.

Hi,

Arg files store program settings NOT a drawing settings .

Profiles store settings such as the following:

Default search and project file paths
Template file locations
Initial folder specified in file navigation dialog boxes
Default linetype and hatch pattern files
Printer defaults
Tool palette display settings

According to Help, "the default list of scales [is] stored in the registry", so it's reasonable to assume that it would be considered part of the current profile and therefore would be included when exporting a profile to an ARG file.

When I open an ARG file in a text editor and search for "scale", I actually find some lines that appear to contain lists of scale factors, but it's not clear if any of these apply to the "default" scale list.

I think that's what the ScaleListEdit command (Reset button) is for.

You could call it up using a lisp command, similar to a ''block insertion'' lisp command, whereby all your scales are contained within that block. Start of by reseting the scales list, insert block, finish w an Erase / Last type deal for that block to disappear leaving your scales behind...

I am by no means a Lisp expert, but something like this will work:

(command "-SCALELISTEDIT" "r" "y" "e") ;Resets scale list
(command "_INSERT" "mySCALESblock" "0,0,0" "1" "" "") ;Insert mySCALESblock

Yeah, I forgot I had created a tool palette macro to do it for one of our disciplines a few years ago.

I'll clean that up. It's not guaranteed that everyone will use it but thats the best I can do... would have been nice include natively with an upcoming deployment though.

Nothing happens in a vacuum, or just by asking for it in a post buried in a reply in a forum site with a million+posts.

I think it's included in the profile (.aws) that's stored in C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD XXXX\enu\Support\Profiles. This is unique to each user and likely will cause issues if we try and push a customized aws out.

Per your second reply: we work in meters but scalelist reset only resets to millimeter scales when metric is selected. Additionally, would be nice to purge some out.

As I understand it, the AWS file is more of a "workspace" file related to the profile, but not "the profile". It seems to contain primarily information about tool palettes and other "palette-like" interface elements (dockable windows). I could not find anything that appeared to be related to scales or scale lists.

How do meter and millimeter scales differ?

In millimeters, 1:250 is defined as 1 paperspace unit = 250 modelspace units

In meters, 1:250 is defined as 1 ps to 0.25 ms

This is because even though we work in meters in model, paperspace is still mm. Additionally, metric annotative objects and civil 3d styles also are defined in mm display output.

Sorry, I noticed a few others settings that aren't getting through upon import. I was wondering if someone can confirm for me?

Display tab settings

- Display elements

- window elements

- display resolution

All Plot and publish tab settings

All User preferences

Alternatively, would someone have some documentation on what settings an arg file can contain?

UPDATE: sorry I found the info in the help menu. Apparently, it's just the files tab that gets exported.

It's definitely much more than that. Lots of other settings that are normally stored in the Registry are also included.

Open up an ARG file with a text editor (like NotePad) and see for yourself. Much of it is fairly decipherable.
