AutoCAD - Layer Question

Hello,

I am new to AutoCad and have a question. I have an existing DWG that contains 3 convention halls. I have been asked to put each of the 3 halls in its own layer in order to import them into ungerboeck. I highlight the first hall and put that into its own layer with out any issue and can freeze it to remove the other halls. When I try to put Halls A-C into a layer it does not work. The DWG only has 12 layers including Hall A, B and C that I created. Is there a way to hide entire portions of drawings in CAD and keep them in layers?

Appreciate anyone's input on this.

Thank you,

Thank you for your response, I will try to clarify this better by doing a screen record as I think this would really help, I just have to get IT to allow this on my computer. I think the easiest way to explain this is I am trying to put multiple portions of a DWG into 3 separate layers. I will post some video or photos as soon as I can in order to help you understand what I am trying to do. I appreciate the forums help and will get you more info soon.

Thank you for your help and patience on this.

Attached is a video to hopefully explain the layers issue, I am trying to isolate Hall A, in one layer, Hall B in a 2nd layer and Hall C in a 3rd layer. I am not sure I can do this, as you see in the beginning of the video I can freeze layer A and it just shows Hall A, but then when I try to isolate Hall B in the second half of the video when I then try to freeze Hall A it shows hall A & C but I can successfully isolate Hall B. Thanks again for all your input!

Draw 1 rectangle around each "Hall" so it shows better which is which.

Is this hall "A" or everything right of it is hall "A" ? Maybe the freeze command is using for the wrong hall.

Thank you for your help, This video shows Hall A, B and C. In the first portion of the video you can see I freeze the layer A and it only shows hall A, then I try to remove Hall A and C to only show Hall B when I freeze Hall B and this works but then when I go back to freeze Hall A it now has Hall A and C... I want to be able to put each hall in a layer so it only shows Hall A in 1 layer, Hall B in a 2nd layer and Hall C in a 3rd layer, is this possible?

Thank you everyone for you help on this.

Hi,

Of course you can put each portion on a certain layer .. BUT I think that it's good to give some hints that may help:

Isolating layers ( Layiso) totally different from isolate command (isolateobjects ) .

I assure you that something is wrong in your working procedure and understanding commands details and the way how it's work .

As an architect .. putting those portions on a certain layers NOT the right way for working .. If your need is a must , then you have to try attaching those portions as an xrefs . >> Click <<
