Continuous COTATION

So, I will post the question in as much details as I can and hope that somebody will step pin to advise on how can we find this waay faster than what we already use ...

Hello,

I just wanted to thank You for this help yesterday and now I have a NEW question if You can advise on how to BETTER use Autodesk's AutoCAD, I have received question from one of my students like this:

He/she need to draw cotes all around and can that be somehow made mor easily or the onyl way is to click 1st point, click the end point, then click the line, copy, move the start to end of the first ... or can it be done as simply as "polilyne" ... although it is not poliline ... the picture above need to be all around measured and circled like this part of another picture

and he/she is allowed to copy from the second picture "cotes" for "matchprop" so that hey match in colour ... "

["Cote" is not an AutoCAD term in English -- if this is coming from Spanish, you must mean what are called Dimensions.] Investigate the [English command names] QDIM and DIMCONTINUE and DIMBASELINE commands, which I think may get you at least part of what you want.

COTE drawing is architectural term, and I did check all that and I am just trying to find a FASTER way to draw this as explained ... as this issue is from AutoCAD 2016 and as it is about 10 years later, I would love to hear that Autodesk has made some improvements to its valued software ... thx

DIM... does not use SAME properties as before, but PROLONGES my time as after using DIM... I have to use MATCHPROP to MATCH PROPERTIES AND plus I have to manually change what it missed ...

I am looking for SIMPLE way of measuring and writing as shown on picture and in video ... of dimensions which must be written on all sides of the house / block - in given color. Thank You

You don't say which DIM... command you are talking about. DIMCONTINUE will do what's in your video very much more quickly, and each continued Dimension will be of the same properties as the starting one -- no MATCHPROP required.

This is true even if the current Dimension Style and Layer are not the same as those of the Dimension you are continuing. If that Dimension is not the last one drawn as in my demonstration, use the Select option at the first DIMCONTINUE prompt, and pick the one you want.

I would also suggest you increase your Aperture and AutoSnap Marker sizes [sliders in the Drafting tab of the OPTIONS dialog box] so you don't need to Zoom in so close to grab onto things like ENDpoints with Object Snap.

Hi,

As much as i understand your issue that you want make dimensions all the way around your plan.

If that is your goal :

You will do that manually and one by one by several dimension commands.
ADDSELECTED (Command) will help a lot to match your existing dimensions to make the new ones.

First off I suggest making a new dimension style in the dimension manager, '_dimstyle' this way you won't have to mess with properties etc.
Then place your first line like Kent said and use Dimcontinue.

If you want to 'continue' from another dimension you can type Dimcontinue and press [enter] once, select the dimension you want to continue from and it will work nicely.

Autocad 2016 has this command..
