Need to save customized menu for new AutoCAD installation

So due to some problems with Windows updates on my work computer, we are reformatting my hard drive and starting fresh, including AutoCAD, of course. My menu/workspace is pretty customized to how I like it (I still use the button Icons, not the ribbon).

Can I save or export this to a file... then import it into the new AutoCAD installation?

I won't have access to the old version, since they are wiping the hard drive and reinstalling everything, not just providing a new computer. So this isn't a regular migration between versions, but entirely different computers, basically.

I assume the fact I use Advance Steel is not a problem... ?

Depends on what changes you have made. You could save the Workspace, Menus, Toolbars and so on within the CUI.

You should be able to migrate the current workspace to the other computer

But just incase maybe also try Reset command and select the backup settings option there as wel:

Hi,

1. Export setting as described above

This will incl. or usual cuix stuff, profile and much more

2. If you are using Toolpalettes which incl. insertion tools (insert block),

don't forget to backup the .dwg files which storing your blocks

Same for all other of your personal "supportfiles", of all kinds which are not in Autodesk folders.

and because I found this article, I prefer to do this on-top (unsure if needed, but never a problem if you have a backup - not having is a problem sometime lol)

3. Backup Advance Steel settings (link)

4. New PC, do - with admin rights

Install the same Product, same language, same version

Start & close program - with admin rights

Install the latest update for your product

Store your 2) files at the same location (Drive/folders)

Store your 3) files at the same location (Drive/folders)

Import 1)

Start program finally

You can save your custom workspace and settings using the CUI editor or AutoCAD’s migration tools. Don’t forget to back up your tool palettes, block files, and any other custom files saved outside Autodesk folders. You can also check Autodesk’s support articles for simple steps to transfer or reset your settings.

Thank you. You bring up a question... to save all these settings (mostly CUI, I guess) will I be able to import them into a later version of Advance Steel ?

I'm currently using Advance Steel 2022. Not sure if I should go ahead and upgrade at the same time.

This way? NO.
This way is from one product, to THE SAME
Migration from an old to a newer version (same kind of product) is working if both are installed on the same PC only.

But, with the right knowledge, manually - yes, the exported file is just a simple .zip.
If you have to ask "will I be able to", I would say, let it be. It sounds you edited some standard setting/files, also the standard .cuix file(s)
and it isn't a way I like to support (to overwrite the standard of a newr version)

NEW:
Install Advance Steel 2022, Import 2022 setting, you exported
Install Advance Steel 202x, Migrate settings from 2022

Also things like databases, I guess. We aren't heavy into customizing those but there have been some minor adjustments I've made.

Just get 2022 working again... then migrate if I choose to.

TOOLBARs aren't a problem, if you created/stored it where you should: In your own .cuix file.
Where are your custom Toolbars stored, in "TNFsSpecial.cuix" or in "ACAD.cuix" or "AdvanceSteel.cuix"?
It should be the first one, the "TNFsSpecial.cuix" (or what the name of your custom .cuix is).
In whatever /Install/Version, the only thing you have to do is: Attach your custom.cuix as partial cui files and add them to your custom workspace.
IF you went another way (edited standard programs support files like "ACAD.cuix" or "AdvanceSteel.cuix),
you should create your custom .cuix NOW. Command: CUIX, jump to the second "tab", create a new .cuix and transfer your custom stuff from one .cuix to the new one.
(create a backup for both, it doesn't cost any money or time, but every now and then you're happy about backups 😉 )

Because of some minor edits, I can't and won't help deeper than the usual way: Export/Import AdvanceSteel settings (and migration from/to the same PC)
Note: Everything exclusively concerning AdvancedSteel is unknown to me, I am not an AS user, I only know the basic product AutoCAD
