topic AutoCAD - Finding dimensions in floor plan in AutoCAD Forum

Hello! I have a floor plan given by the developers but the floor plan doesn't state the dimensions of our new home, except for a scale which I am not sure what was the ratio used. I tried doing it manually with a ruler and maths but it doesn't seem to be accurate.

Would Autocad be able to find out the dimensions?

Thank you so much!

as long as there is a graphic scale then you can use AutoCAD's built-in Scale command & Reference option to set it to the accurate drawing scale.

Since the scale shows M = Meter, then this is a metric drawing.

so start a new drawing: File > New

select acadiso.dwt

enter UNITS command

change Precision to 0.000

change Insertion scale to Meters & click OK

now attach the drawing you received at 0,0

leave the xyz scale as 1 and rotation at 0 for now

now use AutoCAD's SCALE command to scale the drawing attached.

Base point is at the graphic scale's 0

Then at the [Copy/Reference] prompt enter Reference

Base point for reference again is the graphic scale's 0

2nd point is graphic scale's 1

At Specify Reference Length prompt, enter 1 which represents the 1 M on the graphic scale

Now your drawing is as if it's drawn at 1 unit = 1 Meter

Hi,

If you have a pdf or image file for this plan:

Import pdf file first to your AutoCAD by PDFIMPORT (Command).

Import image file first to your AutoCAD. >> Click <<

Now.. make sure that you have a right scale size for your inserted image as described from previous message.

In this way you will have now a plan that you can get dimensions >> Click << But you have to know that you will have a not full accurate results especially when treat with images.

Good Luck.

@amy.tan8CRT9 Any reason you cannot just ask the developers for dimensions to be added? Just curious honestly. That would be the most 100% legally binding action to follow by you without the risk of getting mired in 'assumptions" in this litigious world we live in today.

HTH

Hello, thanks so much for the detailed instructions.

However, I didn't get the results i wanted. My graphic scale ended up longer but my floor plan did not change. How do I rectify this??

Make sure when you’re selecting objects to scale that you select everything including the floor plan and not just the graphic scale. Then everything will scale up accordingly.
