AutoCAD by default replaces missing fonts with txt.shx: it's better than a blank screen with no text.

You will always need the original font (and any local variations to it) for all files to open without text issues in AutoCAD. sorry, AFAIK there is rarely a chance to guess at another replacement font that may or may not work.

Recently i have been tasked with updating drawings. They cannot give me a solid answer as to what software generated it but i think it is Solidworks. I open the drawing in autocad, and immediately noticed my fonts have changed.

I have also noticed in my revision block, one line is usually 5 text boxes. Straightening out the font by manually changing the SEVEN text styles for txt.shx to "Century Gothic", it breaks the spacing since there a 5 different text boxes in 1 line. The dxf and dwg have the same problem.

On the drawing, they have © to represent a critical to quality dimension... These are in dimensions. Editing the dimension or even dragging the dimension causes © to be replaced by <CL-C>. Most of my time is spent in Inventor and I've never had to deal with these issues.

Is there an easy way to fix this? I could redraw it but im trying to avoid that since all this needs is a leader stating, "0.005 Max break edge"

Hi @JNielson65

What AutoCAD are you using to update those drawings? Plain vanilla AutoCAD? Or some other version?

Would it possible to verify the name of the font that's using the © copyright symbol?

AutoCAD goes to a specific folder for fonts

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20XX\Fonts

Is your font in there? If it's not, make a copy of the original and paste it in that folder.

Yes, OP just needs to review the drawing log after opening the file.

There will be lines such as:

<LI-CODE lang="general">Substituting [simplex.shx] for [MYFANCYFONT.SHX]</LI-CODE>
