AutoCAD 2022 - Publishing to PDF Anomaly

AutoCAD 2022
Dell M6600 Workstation i7-2820QM @ 2.3 GHZ

32 GB RAM
W10 Pro
Publishing to multi page PDF from multiple layouts in a single DWG.
Attached 2 extracted pages from the 2 PDFs that were created with this anomaly:

Whenever I modify the DWG then publish, it turns my single solid fill into this multiple object thing that has lines in it and takes up a lot of memory. When I change the "PDF Preset" method from "AutoCAD PDF (High Quality Print)" to "DWG to PDF", and publish again (either overwrite or new filename), the problem goes away. AND, if I do the reverse, the problem also goes away. (IOW start with "DWG to PDF" and the same issue occurs, then change to the other preset and it stops.) I haven't tried every possible combo of PDF presets, but whichever of those 2 is first, creates the issue.
I tried changing nothing, just to see if it was just the first time publishing per session, but that didn't fix it.
...so yeah, I have a workaround, but I'm scratching my head and it's a pain in the butt and I had a minute.☺

-also attached the DWG

-Note difference in size of the 2 PDF files
TIA

@cgooding 2022 is not new: is this a sudden new problem, or a problem with only this DWG file? Or in all files?

FYI your two posted PDFs were created with FOXIT PHANTOM PDF, not anything you mentioned in your post. What gives? V13 is only +/-337kb and V14 is only +/-205kb: not dramatically different in file size, the content seems to be the issue in slowness.

Your DWG is called V14: did you forget to post V13 DWG file? Or are the names here just a coincidence?

If DWG TO PDF does not ever work, why keep using it if I may ask?

If I may also ask: why a solid "black" hatch with a transparency setting instead of a solid hatch set to color 254 for example, it appears you may not actually using transparency for anything like that.

A screenshot of your ABOUT command pop-up would be good to see, as well as confirmation of your OS version, and if you migrated from an older version whenever you started using 2022.

TIA

@ pendean:

Thanks for your help.

They were originally created as 5 pages from AutoCAD presets mentioned. To save space and be concise, I extracted the problem page and re-saved it. Foxit Phantom is my PDF app. The same artifact or whatever it is exists in the original files. (Attached here.)

The PDF filenames are arbitrary. The DWG files are identical except filename. I believe that I created both PDF files from the same DWG file and just renamed the PDF. IOW, without saving the DWG, and only changing the "PDF Preset", I get different results. But the results seem to depend on the order of the preset used, NOT the actual preset used.

However, I'll attach both drawings

I should have mentioned that the slowness is my concern, I realize that the filesize isn't a thing but I don't know why it would be different at all.

I'm afraid I didn't make the problem clear; DWG to PDF works "½ the time". It doesn't seem to be any more problematic than any of the

Whichever of the 2 presets I use first, results in the hatch showing with those segments and lines. Then when I switch to whichever, (the other), the problem is gone.

In this case the reason I used a transparent hatch is that it's a tent with stuff in it and I don't like to think about draw order of the stuff inside and the tent block. Transparent solid hatch seemed like a good way to do that.

Do you think the transparency is causing the problem? If so, why only half the time and not consistently with one preset or another?

Attached screenshots of About and PC properties, and the original 2 PDF files created from autocad. (Note the filesize is more than double for 13 than 14.)

Yes I migrated from earlier version and I don't remember every year to update....

Thanks a lot,

>>>... I don't like to think about draw order of the stuff inside and the tent block...<<<
HPDRAWORDER has been around for quite some time and it has solved that issue for all of our users in our offices for years now. Give it a shot.
I appreciate the tent metaphor: but this is 2D drafting, even in CAD, you "simulate" more that you do "literal" to get a point across in a presentation or to a vendor/contractor.

>>>...Yes I migrated from earlier version...<<<
Log into your PC as an all new user with admin rights and test your R2022 again (same as a Repair reinstall AutoCAD to remove the migrated content, but quicker). Ignore any migration options for now then test and retest. That may just fix it. You should be using 2022.1.3 as listed in ABOUT command. If not, you have n update to install ASAP (restart your PC afterwards).

Lastly, attached is a PDF from my 2022.1.3 software, all I did was open your DWG file (with it's missing XREFs), go to the TENT layout, and PLOT using the preset defaults in there. ~155kb file, hatch looks great, no speed issues in any of the PDF viewers I have (including Foxit PDF Editor Pro).

Same PDF sizing in AutoCAD 2021 and 2023 (both fully updated, none have any of your migrations).

My PDF

Your PDFs

Sorry, I fear I'm not clear.

I understand draw order, but the way my projects evolve is with things moving around and coming and going
AND

"Tent" isn't a metaphor, that rectangle is a tent. I put the transparent fill in it to differentiate it from the parking lot deck that it's sitting on. With the fill being transparent, the furniture doesn't get hidden if the draw order gets messed up. It's just easier if draw order doesn't matter.

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll try that when I get a chance.
