AutoCAD - Editing 3D Content

I'm just getting into 3D. Seems like it's mostly taking a 2d closed polyline and extruding along with other, similar tools. This seems fine for unique designs, but what about reusing existing content for other projects like door, windows, beams, columns, footings, etc? You can't stretch an extruded 2d polyline.

What am I missing?

Thank you

I recommend modeling boxes, cylinders and so on at once. Extrusion 2d-contours should only be used to build complex shapes.
To stretch/shrink 3d solids, you need to learn how to select the faces of the solids (with a frame and click while holding down CTRL) and then use the usual Move command or the GIZMO arrows.
Combine parts and assemblies into blocks for reuse. And create libraries of your blocks.
Here are some helpful tips for you: https://sites.google.com/site/avcplugins/likbez
