It was for such parts in our company that we had to buy a second CAD with the word Mechnical in the title, so that our dwg models could be converted into "sheet metal" and create unfolded solids. In AutoCAD, this is done only by manual drawings or by the Unfold plugin, one copy of which costs about $500. There are also free LISPs, but as you wrote, they don't always work.

The development of a simple cone is quite easy to draw by hand - remember the school drawing course. Or search for paid plugins by the word "Unfold". It will be expensive. Or use other dwg-programs (no AutoCAD) with "Sheet Metal" modules.

Perhaps just follow this formula to figure out surface area of a funnel

https://www.vedantu.com/question-answer/an-oil-funnel-made-of-tin-sheet-consists-of-a-class-10-maths-cbse-5f75e3a7721a917006292c37

If you don't need a unfolded solid, but just want to see the surface area, then you can use the AVC Properties palette. This palette shows the area of the selected surface and the sum of the areas if multiple surfaces are selected.

I drew up a crude drawing of something that I would like to do. Basically I need to layout the radius-ed panels on a sheet to accurately cut out from panel goods. Thanks for any help

Simple search will yield a lot of information -such as this video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXdqQS0Phhg

You don't give any information regarding the thickness of the panels you will be using or the radius dimensions. You may have to make some accommodation for thickness by beveling the edges of the panels so they will fit together.
