Hi,

>>"I also want to know where do I enable a 2D only version of Autocad,"

No, there is no 2D version of AutoCAD,LT,or Toolset

But except of LT Versions, you can set OSNAPZ, read more about in [F1].

Check your UCS, set OSNAPZ, and osnaps ignores Z-Values.

Hey, For years that this problem has been bothering me. Sometimes drawings come with 3D geometry, like topographic surveys and we have to work on them.

If I design directly over these drawings, my lines will become messed up, all in 3D space, but I still want to be able to snap to the 3D geometry, only that everything I draw remains on the Z=0 value.

I also want to know where do I enable a 2D only version of Autocad, so that no matter what, nothing will ever move up or down, no more finding out that some lines are in 3D, it's so frustrating. This makes a lot of sense so I'm sure that autodesk developers have added this feature, I just can't find it.

Thanks in advance !

Thanks, the OSNAPZ might be useful, I will have to try it and see if it works well.

About the work work in 2D only, I mean, I'm looking for the option in which the orbit doesn't work, no matter what I do i can go on a 3D view. I work with other 3D software parallel with autocad, so it's common I use the orbit (shift+middle mouse button) by mistake in autocad, enough to crash the whole drawing when it's heavy. I can't believe the developers missed this UX fundamental. There must be a simple solution that i'm looking over...

At command prompt , Set elevation to 0.000 and draw polyline - Not 3dpoly or line - ? will at least snap to points and stay on same elevation as start. BUT you can then move elevation via properties to zero, if it started higher or lower.

The shift+nouse-wheel way of 3D orbiting apparently does not actually invoke a command, so undefining a command doesn't prevent that. I tried undefining 3DORBIT anyway, in case it actually uses that command but it doesn't show in the command line history, but I can still do it with shift+mouse-wheel-drag.
