Data linked tables that delete upon excel sheet deletion

Hello,

I have recently learned about data links between Excel files and AutoCAD drawings. I am trying to link a template excel spreadsheet to a template AutoCAD drawing to be modified for each project. Here's a basic rundown of how it is SUPPOSED to work:

1. the excel has every table that can be possibly used in a project. Each table has a dedicated sheet (to take advantage of the data link feature: "link entire sheet")

2. the autocad drawing has every sheet linked

3. buttons with VBA code in the excel sheet to hide/unhide sheets of your choice, and then a button to permanently delete the hidden sheets

4. the tables in the autocad template would remove the deleted sheets as there is nothing in the data link anymore

The problem is, stage 4 does not seem to work, the tables do not delete in AutoCAD. I'm wondering how to get around this or if there is a better way of doing this?

I datalink tables all the time. I linked to named ranges instead, but same idea. When I try this idea, it says the data link can not be updated. I don't think what you are trying to do is possible since the link will no longer have a sheet to link to, it will fail to update.
