I looked at your drawing and did not notice any strange behavior of AutoCAD. Your first two layouts are set to an HP printer and a 36x24 inch sheet (huge sheet! is that a mistake?). I always set sheets to the "Windows Defaut Printer" printer - this is the only way to print drawings on different computers with different printers. Perhaps the problem is in the "Print area" layout settings. You have "Extents". And I always adjust "Layout". Try changing this setting.

Hello,

When creating sheets, I do use the baseview command. The thing I would like to know, I would like all my 3D objects to be in my initial view(Plan View) for sections, but I do not want to see all the objects in plan view. Does baseview

have this capability. I still haven't figured out how to create layers with baseview.

Thanks,

Bryan

In order to see a different set of objects on different ModelDoc views, you need to call the ViewBase command twice and select a different set of objects for it. Also in the view context ribbon you can select the view editing command and change the set of objects in the view.

If you want to make several sections on one sheet (layout), but do not want to see the main view on the same sheet, then simply make the main view outside the printed area of the sheet.
Layers have nothing to do with ModelDoc views. This view system uses its own special MD_ layers. You can set up such layers with these names beforehand in your template and the team will use them instead of creating new ones.

Hello,

Thanks for you reply. Let me go into further detail to make sure we are on the same page. I am attaching

a PDF with how I typically like to layout my sheets. This PDF is actually what I am working on now and not complete.

As you will see, this stair has a lot of steel components that make my plan view very busy and hard to read. I want to create my section in paper space with my plan view but need all of my 3D objects in the drawing for the section. I also cant use Visible lines for the plan view because there are some hidden lines I would like to remain visible. My schedule is fast past so I would hate to have to create the sections in model space, when baseview is so fast and convenient.

I may be wanting a rocket ship that can take to the moon and back overnight but I thought I would at least see if

anyone else has encountered this and found a good solution.

Thanks,

Bryan

Everything you describe is easily built using only the ModelDoc view system. First you make a plan view (_ViewBase) using only part of the details. Then you make another plan view using all the details, but place this view past the sheet (outside the printable area). You then make sections (_ViewSection) based on this non-printing view.
You can change the visual style to hide or show hidden lines. But you can't choose which lines to show or hide.

Hello,

Thank you for you time. I follow you and agree this is a sneaky, but effective solution. My last question if you don't mind, is when is comes to plotting with objects outside the paper space. Typically I have multiple sheets and will publish them together. By using this method, I am assuming I will have to plot the sheet with views outside the paper separately(by window so it doesn't include the objects outside paper space) and then combine the PDF's or

is there a sneaky way to deal with this issue as well.

Again thanks so much for your time.

Bryan

I didn't really understand your question. Everything you want to print must be within the printable area of the sheet. The ModelDoc system does not allow you to transfer sections and enlarged views to another sheet. If you create several sheets with sections, then on each of them you will have to create a separate base view (and if you do not want to see it on the printout, then you need to create it outside the print area).

Hello,

Yes but when I publish several pages at once, if there is anything outside of the paper space, (the plan view I set aside for my sections) autocad will automatically pick up that there is something outside my sheet template and attempts to include that object within my sheet. So I am left with a drawing way off center. They way I found around this is to plot my sheet using the window method but cant use the window method when publishing multiple sheets at once.

I can always plot each sheet individually and then combine them but didn't know if you knew of a better way to deal with this.

Thanks,

Bryan

No, AutoCAD never changes the print area set on the layout. So I quietly print dozens of layouts at once and all of them have "extra" views and "extra" comments (not for printing). It does not bother me. I have never encountered such a problem. Perhaps you somehow set up the layout in a very strange way, but I can’t even imagine how you managed it. Please send an example of a layout that changes the print area by itself. I even got curious 🙂

Hello,

Again, you have been awesome, thank you. I am attaching my dwg that we have been working with and also

this file was created with my typical template I start a job with. I very well may have a setting not set correctly.

With 3D I am youtube and self taught for the most part. But when I publish say AW_M1 and any other page at the same time, it does pick up anything in my paper space, just not my sheet. If you could figure this out, that would help me out tremendously.

Thanks,

Bryan
