Using AutoCAD 2020, when I use the Move command to move an object or objects, I select it, then move it. That should end the command but it does not. It remains in the select mode waiting for the selection of another object. The only way to end the command is escape. Ending the session of AutoCAD and then restarting it fixes the problem but then it will reappear later. Is there a system variable that controls this type of behavior?

The core MOVE command works as you wish it here: you must have a LISP or add-on doing more for you. Since 2020 is not new, what did you add to it recently? Or is this a new job/first day on this R2020 PC?

I'll try that one the next time the problem occurs. If that is the only solution, it might be more convenient to make a command alias than to type that in every time.

Just the first step in troubleshooting the problem. Once we know this works then the next step is to check your Acad.pgp to confirm that M sends this same syntax to start the Move command.

There are no lisps or addins. It just started happening without making any other changes, and it only occurs randomly. Restarting the session of AutoCAD resolves it, but only temporarily. It may be isolated to one DWG file only, just not sure yet.

That usually means you are indeed triggering something 'else' when it occurs. At some point with your old software you might have to truly perform a program reset, then ensure you have the latest 2020.1.6 update installed (ABOUT command will confirm it).

FYI now that 2024 is out you may have to request from Autodesk permission to continue to have older than five versions back installed in case of an audit. At least this used to be the requirement.
