Scale function with mouse/cursor

I recently had to have the app reinstalled on my profile at my job. As one would expect some settings required adjustment etc but just today something peculiar started happening. I wanted to adjust the size of a group of objects, something I have done a thousand times. I select the group of objects and select the scale function. Normally at this point I select a reference point and adjust the size of the group of objects by dragging the mouse. Now instead of the entire group expanding or contracting when I drag the mouse i get a horizontal line that I guess is a compressed version of the group of objects. When I release the mouse I get a microscopic version of the group that I am attempting to re-size. Please note that I am not going for precision here but rather a simple approximation for something that will not be in a scaled paper space version of the drawing. I don't want to use scale factors for this, just a simple size modification with the mouse.

That sounds like maybe you're looking at the world "on edge" relative to the current Coordinate System. Does it work if you make sure you're in PLAN view in a Coordinate System appropriate to the drawn objects?

We should see the screen to understand. As you increase or decrease what i call the brown dotted "elastic line" you should see a preview of the result, wich means more or less than 1 (the unit) ! But this manouver is driven by the object snaping... Are you magnetized by an osnap ?

Do you F3 (short or long push, if ever you knew that there is a difference...) while manipulating ?

What about this "horizontal line" ? Brown and dotted ? What is its length ? You can (and should) read it there :

This coords box is not showed after you installed your soft, since a few years, if i am not wrong. This is something i will NEVER understand coming from the supplier of a CAD system... Please, show it 😉

Interesting. Yes, the line that appears seems to be some version of the items I am attempting to re-size. It does seem as though it may be presenting on edge but only when I attempt to use the Scale function. Do you have any idea as to what view setting I need to modify to change this?

Thanks for your help...

Hi there,

Yes I have the "brown dotted line" but the preview of the re-sized object presents as the flat green line as shown in the attached screen shot. I'm afraid that I am not certain what data that you wanted me to capture that wasn't in the first screen shot so this one captures the entire screen view. I hope that works. Thanks for your help on this.

Please : push this button

And put Coords on (the first one)

It gonna change your life 😉

I can see 0 in your elastic line length but I'd like you to see that amount in the Coords box.

Still don't know what is this green line if not the result of a huge scaling of a green object standing on the left of the group. Hard to know...
