annotative text and dynamic blocks tutorial?

hey guys/girls......does anyone know of a good, quick tutorial of annotative text and dynamic blocks somewhere? I, for some reason, can't get my head around it. I think I know how it is supposed to work, but can't seem to get text to scale appropriately for the viewport scales I'm using.....here's my workflow. I create a drawing that has my survey base in it. I xref that dwg into sheets, and create viewports at different scales.
