Thanks folks, wasn't sure if there was a problem with my setup or a bug in CAD. @paullimapa's solution worked well, 16 xrefs on 16 layers.

Hi all

I have a drawing with a lot of OLEs from XREFs which overlap heavily in model space. I have VP frozen the OLE layers from the layouts so that I get a clean view of the info I want. In the layout tab, the layout looks fine but when plotted all the vpfrozen OLEs are still visible in the viewport.

I have attached files which simplify the problem as much as possible. "xref ole.dwg" has an OLE on it's own layer, "drawing with xref.dwg" xref's "xref ole.dwg" and has a layout that only has 1 viewport, with the OLE layer VPfrozen. But it still plots the OLE when PDF'd as shown in

drawing with "xref-Layout1.pdf"

Any ideas?

In your drawing with xref.dwg create a layer (like "xref") and place the xref ole.dwg on that layer.

Then inside the Vport Vplayer Freeze that layer ("xref").

Now when you plot that layer to pdf then OLE object won't show up.

OLEs are weird in AutoCAD, they like to misbehave: in your case, the layer the XREF is on needs to be VP-frozen too. Consider creating a unique layer just for your XREFs or at least this one.

OR... just place your OLE in your file without XREFfing on a unique layer.
