What does a DIMLFAC = -1 do

I'm working on a drawing that's been passed around who knows how many times, the DIMLFAC is set to -1. What the heck does that do? There appears to be no documentation of it.

@KDAddison DIMLFAC set to -1 indicates that the scale factor is applied only to dimensions in the layout, specifically for Paper Space dimensions scaled according to an underlying viewport. This negative value ensures backward compatibility with pre-AutoCAD 2002 files.

DIMLFAC (Dimension Linear Factor) is an AutoCAD system variable that sets a scale factor for linear dimension measurements. It multiplies the actual distance of objects (lengths, radii, diameters) by this factor before displaying the measurement in dimension text, primarily used for no associative dimensions or scaling details.
