isolate objects for STRETCH command

According to my knowledge, the STRETCH command needs a crossing box in defining parameters. This makes it more likely selecting unintended objects, then watching to see they are not also affected. Is there a way easier that using layers to isolate objects for this command?

You can also select objects within a polygonal area,Enter cp (Crossing Polygon) and then specify points that define an area that encloses or crosses the objects you want to select.
Also you may try isolating objects . select components which you want to keep in drawing then right click to bring the contextual menu. From this menu select isolate then isolate objects.

What about using SHIFT to unselect objects before ending the selection process ? Something that i often do.

That's good as long as you actually hit everything you want to pick on to unselect. If you miss, even just barely, it goes into Window/Crossing mode, which wipes out your so-far Crossing selection [it always abandons all but the latest window's worth, whether that's in selecting or unselecting]. BUT I find if I type in R for the Remove option, I can then unselect things with Window/Crossing selection, without losing the rest of the intended selection.

or these HIDE options

It's how we all temporarily hide stuff we don't want to touch. Give it a try.

Acad 2015 does in fact have these -- does anyone define aliases for these to skip the right-click?

Those command names (just watch the commandline when you select /activate each) are

ISOLATEOBJECTS

HIDEOBJECTS

UNISOLATEOBJECTS

Your HELP in 2015 should explain how they are used, I suspect you know how to create shortcuts in the program with editing the ACAD.PGP or using the Express Tool ALIASEDIT command.
