Hi,

You can attach raster image to DWG with ATTACH or IMAGEATTACH commands. In AutoCAD, the term "trace image" typically refers to the process of using an imported image as a reference to draw over it, creating a new set of vector-based geometry. While there isn't a single "trace image" command that automatically converts a raster image to vector lines, several commands and features ( LINE, PLINE, ARC, CIRCLE, SPLINE ) are used in conjunction to achieve your need.

Depending on what the logo actually looks like, AutoCAD Raster Design (if you have access to) may be helpful to recreate the logo in vector data.

Ive done this type of thing often.

I frequently find it best just to redraw in AutoCAD with the help of the raster tool set.

If the logo is simple enough you may have luck usning conversion tools. I frequently use inkscape to get vertor versions of images, though it depends on several factors as to whether it comes out well. Inkscape is open-source and can output to dxf.

99% of the time though i get better results traing over the image in AutoCAD.

The size and quality of the image will determine the vector conversion output in any raster to vector app, but in most cases a redraw is the only way to achieve a usable vector reproduction.

Some redraw points to consider:

MyFonts.com (used to be WhatTheFont) has a font finder that can help in identifying any fonts used in the image.

Importing the image into an AutoCAD drawing, then setting the transparency to about 50% will give you a good starting point for tracing.

Set the image to the back using DRAWORDER.

For tracing, the use of small incremented plines that can be splined if needed, paying extra attention to any squared off corners, helps to keep things smooth and tidy.

For hatching, in order to eliminate any 'bleed through' (thin streaks), or lapse in color in solid hatches, copy the hatch in place, then set the angle of the new hatch 90° perpendicular to the original.

From someone who has been down that road many times.
