topic Why does AutoCAD crash at least 3 or 4 times a day? in AutoCAD Forum

It's honestly an embarrassment. Even if I were to start with a completely blank template and all standard settings.. this software will still crash if I have multiple tabs open and switch between tabs. Even double clicking on lines, notes, viewports, etc. will make this software crash. It's pathetic.

How is it possible I can handle multiple gigabytes of scan data in 3D cad software like Siemens NX without crashing but AutoCAD will crash over the smallest little things. Without exaggerating this software will crash at least 3 times a day even if I have all standard settings and a few lines drawn.

The amount of work I've had to re-do on AutoCAD simply because it just crashes whenever is unbelievable.

I'm currently working on this laptop:

i9-13950HX 2.2GHz (13th gen)

64GB RAM

Win11 x64

Nvidia RTX 3500

Everything is up-to-date. AutoCAD version is 2025.

And it's not just this laptop that has issues. Even previous laptops and desktop workstations.. it does not matter. Always the same crash report after switching tabs or double clicking an item. "Do you want to send the report"?

Perhaps the problem has to do with AutoCAD 2025 and your Windows OS?
Have you tried downloading and installing 2024 to test and see if the same problem occurs?

13th gen i9 processors are reported to have thermal issues, I've got one in my HP laptop and it regularly hits 100deg package and core temps (the limit for that package) performing pretty mundane tasks (and yes, I get a lot of crashes too).

Ensure you have Autocad running on the dedicated graphic chip, not the integrated one. Clear out your %temp% folder - all the basic housekeeping really.

Raise the issue with Autodesk support, it's their product after all. you will have to dedicate some time to this yourself, don't expect a magic wand, overnight fix, but they are better people to be asking.

Is AutoCAD installed from a deployment image? Is the OS OEM to the laptops and workstations? Maybe check for memory issues.
