Change text underline color?

Hello,

Is it possible to change the color of an underline in mtext or mleaders? It defaults to the color of the text, which makes sense, but there must be a way to change the color as needed.

I'm pretty sure that's not possible [somebody surprise me...]. Even with the locations of changes between underlined and not and between color override and not overlapping/occurring in different places, the underlining changes color along with the text, in mid-underline if that's where the color change happens.

Nope.
And you cannot just "highlight a word" within the MTEXT object/editor either as far as I know.

Maybe these are items for the "Wish List". It seems that AutoCAD is so advanced in so many facets, but in some cases, the simple things are overlooked. Thanks for the feedback.

Hello. Are you trying to do something like this? This is an MLeader on one of my drawings. I was looking for an answer for something else with regards to text and this post came up.

It is not possible., all kind of (native DXF/DWG) text-objects are not designed for this.

As far as I know, only by drawing the underlining as a Line [or Polyline if you prefer]. But of course, that will be independent of the Text, and will not adjust itself if you change something about the Text it goes with.

What is the purpose? Do you actually want it a different color for color's sake, or is that only for a different weight in color-based Plotting? If the latter, you could, for example, use .TTF fonts so the "weight" of the text will not be determined by the color, but that of the underlining will. Set the color of the overall object to produce the underlineweight you want.

I have been adding a line of a different color beneath the text manually. But, as you have mentioned, there are many drawbacks of doing it this way. That is why I was hoping to find a workaround.

The purpose is for the color to show on a color print, not for weight. We have a client that requires this as part of their CADD standards for color displays.

I agree with Kent. That's the only way I know of doing what you want to do is have a line separate from the text. I know it's extra time doing it since you need to have separate colors, but once it's drawn, you can always group it with a text, so when you move it around, the line and text stay together. Maybe an idea you can submit to Autodesk?
