Quickest way to remove vertices from polyline

I am wanting to know if there is a quick way to remove multpile vertice between two selected vertices

instead of the pe command and straighten?

Answer my own question again

Weedfeatures->Partial select the start and end point between where you want to weed set the settings to just length and some large value and the line will straight.

I bit tricker if the start and end point of the polyline are with the section being straightene as you have to do in two steps.

up to that point then remove manually.

Sometimes it's easier to just break it at 2 points, delete the unwanted piece and add a new one.

Is the MAPCLEAN > WEED only applicable to 3D polys??

If reducing the number of vertices in 2D/contours then I use a lisp which does it for me......

Either can be used on 2d or 3d plines depending on what you want. Simplify will oonly delete colinear pi's. Weed may delete this pi depending on the angle setting and can change the direction of a course. I would most likely use weed on contour lines and I would simplify something like a curbline.

Very Easy!

command: DeleteFeaturePI

Ribbon: ModifyTab->EditGeometry->DeletePI

HelpFile description: Deletes a selected vertex on a feature line, survey figure, polyline, or 3D polyline.

Available in C3D, not sure about other versions.

JUST FLOAT YOUR CURSOR OVER THE VERTEX A WINDOW POPS UP GIVING YOU THE OPTION TO REMOVE VERTEX

THEN YOU REMOVE THE VERTEX!!!!

Of course that is possible and quicker than most options but I dont want to spend an hour deleting over 500 vertices from a line by hovering each vertex and waiting a second of two for the window to pop up.

And if you have a handful or so to delete the Delete PI command is faster than hitting the menu at ever vertex. But for one or two, yes the autocad command works great.

select the polyline , move your cursor to the vertex you wish to delete. A menu should appear and select remove vertex.

hello all

you can use the PEDIT command and yes, it does work for 3D polylines (at least in 2018)

select the pline and move along the vertices to the start of the section to be straighten, enter S (straighten) and then next to move to the next vertice,

continue along the pline to the end of the section to be strainghten and enter G for go, and the vertices between the start and end points are gone.

Works very well for changing small plines and holds the elevation for the start and end point on a 3d polyline.

The OP said he/she wanted options other than this one, but it's still my favorite. It gives you direct control of where to straighten and takes seconds.

The sad thing is that so few newer (and even many very experienced) users even know about PEDIT. Anyone who is a curious AutoCAD user should explore this command.

It is still a bit painful if you have many vertices and the first one is many clicks from the start (as is the final one)....
