xref status = Unreferenced ???

Hello All,

I'm running AutoCAD 2014.

I was given some drawings with something strange going on in them.

The drawings x-reference images.

The images are in the path specified and the images display.

When looking at the references in the File References dialog box

the Status of the referenced images is ! Unreferenced.

I checked the Help and Help says the options for the Status of a reference

are Loaded, Unloaded and Not Found.

I can find no mention of Status = Unreferenced.

Does anyone know what exactly Unreferenced means in this case?

The referenced images exist and are being found because they are displaying.

Normally, "unreferenced" means an insert existed at one time but has been removed (erased).

"The images are in the path specified and the images display."

"The referenced images exist and are being found because they are displaying."

Even though the images "display", it is possible that the displayed images are not (any longer) externally referenced. Perhaps they were externally referenced at one time, but in the meantime have been "converted" to internal objects in some way? What does Properties tell you about any of the images?

Strange... Looks like they are referenced.

Unload them and they disappear from the screen and still show as Unreferenced in the dialog box.

Reload them and they they reappear on the screen and still show as Unreferenced in the dialog box .

Detach them and they disappear from the screen and the dialog box.

Can you post a sample DWG file (along with a copy of a referenced image file that shows as unreferenced)?

For what it's worth, I agree with dmfrazier. Unreferenced usually means they've been erased rather than properly detached.

Why don't you reattach (not reload, that's pointless) each one again and try to figure out which one is the "extra"? I bet the interferences one is the "extra".

Or contact the files sender and you both pull up the sent file and review them together as a team?

As noted by others, you just have an erased reference, nothing more.

Is the Xref nested? Meaning an Xref in an Xref? Make sure the Xref in the Xref is "Attached" and not "Overlayed"
