Sounds like an extremely basic question, and it probably is, but:

What is the easiest way to lengthen a line in one direction? Currently, let's say I have a line on some angle, 45 degrees. I first draw a line perpendicular to the line in an arbitrary location. Then, I MOVE this new layout line to the endpoint of the line I want to lengthen. I then OFFSET that layout line the distance I want to lengthen the original line, then do an EXTEND of the original line.

There has to be a much more efficient way of doing this, correct?

Thanks.

.... the applicable one in the situation you describe being the DElta option. You can make it longer or shorter depending on whether the DElta length you give it is positive or negative.

I tend to use LENthen > Total most often, but strictly speaking Grip editing (as above) is the "easiest" IMO, particurally when Dimensional Input is enabled. Tab key lets you toggle between choice to enter Length Change (Delta) and Total Length. (also angle and angle change if you configure it that way in DSETTINGS)

In the Object Snap settings (OS), if you check "Extension", you can just click on the end grip of a line and start dragging it along the angle. Just type in the distance you want to increase the length by.

So with the "extension" osnap turned on, I select the line, then hover over the blue endpoint grip, it brings up a little menu: stretch and lengthen. Is this correct? Doesn't seem to be the same as what you are talking about, perhaps.

Mikegera:

You've got it, but instead of clicking on the menu, click the end point you want to drag, hover over the end point for a second, then start dragging along the angle you want to lengthen the line on. A dashed line should appear to let you know you're on track. Once you have that dashed line, you can click again to finish, or type a numeric value and hit enter.
