Not the answer I was looking for , but appreciate the detailed information.

We always set up our drawings at a surveyors mark (far from origin) because we have to coordinate information from many different sources.

We are also using 64-bit machines, so I guess we will have to just work within the limitations of the program.

Hi, I have a (metric) dwg where the objects are drawn very far from the origin point (at a surveyors mark) in the region of X = 1757499000 Y = 5920539000

When I try to use Snap Intersection between 2 lines, the snap will not work unless the line length is greater than 60mm (i.e. two 59mm lines intersecting will not snap intersection). Has anyone else seen this, and know of a fix?

BTW the lines are completely flat (used the FLATTEN command)

Hi,

as long as you far away from 0,0,0 weird things either will appear here and there related to AREA and DISTANCES.

for me i'm suffering from this point from years ago and i don't have or find a proper answer. so try to be always beside 0,0,0 and you will not see nightmares. 🙂

Good Luck

Hello

Welcome to the Autodesk/AutoCAD Forums !

If you are FAR from Zero, Zero, you will have random problems with :

Distance, Area, OSNAP, Extend, Trim, Offset, etc ...

Please move object NEAR Zero, Zero and then move them back !

Regards, Patrice (I am not an Autodesk Advisor)

Hi Peter,

I'd like to confirm that the behavior is in fact a limitation. I wish I had better news for you.

This behavior occurs when the size of the coordinate values involved in the mathematical calculations exceed the capabilities of the computers CPU to calculate. There are many modeling operations in AutoCAD that will not work correctly at large coordinates because of this limitation. When objects start to exceed 100,000 or 0.000001 units in precision, the required mathematical calculations risk pushing beyond the limitations of the CPU. This limit will vary from machine to machine.

To correct this behavior, you must move the objects closer to the origin.

You might also notice a performance improvement by running a 64-bit processor, however you will still encounter limitations at some coordinate values.

See link.

The workaround is to temporarily move the objects closer to origin. I do apologize for the inconvenience.
