Ah, thank you for clearing that up.

Upon further investigation, I made the source object and the array on layer 0, and then relocated the array to a different layer. The source object and its copies didn't change their layer property, so when the array was exploded, all of the member objects remained on layer 0.

I originally had a question about why my exploded polar array of solids disappeared, but then after about a half hour of testing, found out that the resulting solids were moved to layer 0 (which I had turned off).

Is it normal behavior for exploded arrays to have their items created on layer 0 instead of the either the array's layer or currently active layer?

Associative Arrays are their own object appart from the objects inside the Array, so when exploded, the objects will revert to the layer of the source object at the time the array was created.

Welcome to Autodesk Blog,

the layer depend on the item layer when you select object for array... if the item was on layer 0 and you select it for array all items arrayed will have the same properties for the layer 0 and if you explode it either it will take the same layer 0 properties... and so on.
