AutoCAD 2016 & Windows 8.1

Hi folks,

Thanks for the "Answer Day"! I have 2016 running on a Surface Pro 3 with Windows 8.1. Took some time to get it set up and running including setting the exe to "Run As Administrator" and disabling display scaling. I still have one problem though. I am unable to open a drawing file from a file explorer window, just get an error message saying something "There was a problem sending the command to the program". ACAD does boot up, but the file does not open. I can only open files from ACAD file open.

I have searched the forums and can't find a solution. Any ideas?

This is a tough question and we get this occasionally. Windows 8 or 8.1 is supported on AutoCAD but the Tablet (Surface Pro 3) is not. The tablets are pretty powerful these days but the graphics etc are not tested for AutoCAD. It is possible that there may be glitches in the expected behaviour of the software on that platform.

FWIW, it seems to run fine in all other aspects so far. Been running this for a few weeks now. Only problems I've encountered so far ar this file open issue and some of the palette text scaling.

As it goes to compatibility of AutoCAD with modern hardware, when is AutoCAD 2015, 2016, 2017 going to be compatible with HiDPI/UHD displays (displays with resolutions above 2560x1600)? In other words when you are planning to implement correct UI scaling of AutoCAD running in Windows 7,8.1, 10?

The issue has been widely discussed across Autodesk Discussion Groups for 1,5 years but no official answer from developers has been given:
