Importing a shape File from ArcGIS into Autocad 2015

Hi, Does anyone know how i can import a shape file from ArcGIS into Autocad 2015, I have exported to cad a set of data which when i open in cad it is only a node or number of nodes, I would like to have the shape file aswell.

That's a job for Map3D.

And what you can bring in will depend on the content of the shape file. There may be nothing importable other than points and associated data.

Thank you for the reply, I assumed with the Compile and shape commands in Autocad 2015 and the ability to select a .shp file that it would work. I dont have Map and wont have map so the search continues.

That is definitely a job for AutoCAD Map3D. I go between Mapinfo and AutoCAD very often and I need the extra tools in Map3D. If you only have AutoCAD I think you can download some form of plugin that helps with importing map files.

To clarify a bit, an AutoCAD SHAPE file is a different beast entirely than a GIS shape file. Autodesk uses the term for letter/symbol glyphs, and can compile their idea of a shape file to a .shx for use as a font, an element in a complex linestyle, or a simple symbol on a drawing (the last not used much anymore).

You might also look into MapWorks from Dotsoft.com software as an add-on to your vanilla acad, or CarlsonGIS from carlsonsw.com

That will work in Map3d, or Civil3d. NOT in plain, unadulterated, vanilla AutoCAD
