Hi Alfred,

That's pretty much what I find. I started an SR with Autodesk so that hopefully I will get official confirmation to pass on to our IT tech. There seems to be some misscomunication on this subject that I'll have to clear up before I can get any further. A big problem is that it seems to be intermittent and I haven't figured out what triggers it.

Thanks.

ICS File extension

Sometimes when I attach a DEG file to an email in Novel Groupwise it will add an ICS file extension. That prevents the recipient from opening the file. I know it can be renamed. But sine most have Windows explorer set to hide known extensions they don't see the ICS.

The drawing gets saved as <filename>.dwg.ics.

I tried to get our IT Dept to diagnose the problem. But they're claiming the problem is that the ICS file extension isn't associated with AutoCAD and the user needs to make AutoCAD the default program for opening ICS file.

What I'm looking for is confirmation that AutoCAD doesn't create or open ICS files.

Allen

Hi,

>> What I'm looking for is confirmation that AutoCAD doesn't create or open ICS files.

I'm sure AutoCAD does not know ICS as file extension, and so it does not open it (or handle such a file directly).

I have no idea why GroupWise does that. I'm not working with GroupWise, but adding an extension to files is not a good workflow generally.

Searching for "GroupWise" and "ICS" finds only calender-specific blogs/forums/threads/... (>>>Wiki about iCalender<<<).

HTH, - alfred -

Autodesk Support has confirmed that there are no ICS file created. It's a bug in our current email program. That's slated to be replaced in a couple of months. So we'll use a couple of workarounds until then.

AFAIK .ics file is/was created with IronCAD software. It's 3D file.
